Washington Budget Clash Over Social Security Funding
A Washington observer criticizes Ways and Means for funding Social Security with general revenues, warning of a projected 60 billion dollar deficit and long-term inflation. They argue deficit financing hurts budget balance and the program’s stability, noting a 7.5 billion dollar transfer to the Social Security Hospital Insurance Trust Fund. The piece contrasts tax cuts with the cost of Social Security.
