Legion Auxiliary Tuesday Night Program At Legion Hall

Geier Merrem Post No 892 and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion plan a regular meeting at the Legion Hall on Tuesday night May 5 at 8 o clock. The Ladies Auxiliary will present a program with prayers, readings by Edward Kolar Fred Fehrenkamp Jr Virginia Valenta and others and musical numbers including trumpet duets and audience participation.

Severe Storm Destroys Buildings and Trees in Local Area

A Tuesday early morning storm swept through the section with heavy rain about 2 am, leaving around 1% inches, fierce lightning, and cyclonic winds. Henry Fisbeck's car shed was demolished, Mary Tennard's home was blown from its foundation, several barns partially roofed, and numerous large shade trees knocked down. No injuries were reported.

Lavaca County Picks Soil Conservation Committee For 1986

County Agent G. C. King of Hallettsville reports that the Lavaca County committee met April 23 and elected the soil conservation program committee for 1986 with H. R. Blaschke as chairman F. K. Hinck J. F. Miller and W. A. Schorhack as alternate.

Baursville Hosts Large Crowd at School Picnic

Baursville welcomed a large crowd last Sunday for the annual school picnic. A bounteous dinner was served and enjoyed by all as several candidates mingled with voters. An evening dance capped the pleasant event.

G Alsteadt of the Extension Service visited the Moulton garlic fields last week. He reported the crop will be ready for market shortly and noted a garlic drying plant has been established in the area.

Moulton Man's Sister Buried in Swiss Alp Cemetery

Mrs. Lydia Rudi nee Kaase, aged 63, wife of Chris Rudi of LaGrange and sister of F. C. Kaase of Moulton, died April 21 and was buried at Swiss Alp Cemetery with Rev. Moebus officiating. The funeral drew a large attendance and pallbearers included Martin Placke and several Roitsch and Kaase relatives. Born January 28 1873, she married December 18 1900 and lived on the Swiss Alp farm before moving to LaGrange four years ago. she left four brothers and six sisters.

Washington April 20. Texas 1934 natural population increase surpassed the national average with 116 603 births and 59 731 deaths, a net gain of 56 872. Infant mortality reached 72 per 1000 live births. heart disease led deaths at 8 569, with accidents 4 495 and cancer 4 002.

Texas District Lutheran Church annual convention in Yorktown

The sixth annual Texas District of the Ameri can Lutheran Church met April 22 to 26 in Yorktown with about 250 pastors and delegates registered. Rev. E. A. Sagebiel was reelected district president for five years. nine pastors and four congregations were accepted. The meeting began steps to make Texas Lutheran College a senior college. the Yorktown congregation hosted a large service and a barbecue dinner serving over 1,000 people.

Former Salesman Returns to Texas Social Ties

Eugene Daugherty of Georgetown a knight of the grip who made the territory in the horse and buggy era was back Wednesday hand shaking with old friends. He spent part of last year in Georgia visiting relatives and friends and said he was glad to be back in Texas, the greatest state of them all.

Yoakum Texas April 25 residents approved $75 000 in school bonds by 569 to 345. A federal grant of $60 500 will supplement local funds to build a high school and an auditorium.

Ninth Annual Convention of the South Texas Press Association

The ninth annual convention gathered in San Antonio with headquarters at the Gunter Hotel. President Alf Schroeter of Runge presided. Robert Lee Bobbitt spoke in the morning session and Governor James V. Allred addressed the banquet crowd. Officers elected included Stanley Mohle, Joe T. Cook, Fred Herndon, Sam Fore Jr., and Arthur Lefevre. Entertainment featured the Shiner Lien Paper Co, Fiesta Association, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, and KTSA radio artists.

Waterworks Company Annual Meeting Overview

The Moulton Waterworks Company held its annual meeting at the Farmers & Merchants State Bank with Vladik Boelm presiding. Minutes were approved, a yearly report presented noting new pipe, a condenser and pump installation, and other improvements. The old board of directors was rejected. new officers to be elected at the next regular meeting the third Wednesday night in May.

Marine Band Authorized to Attend Centennial and Reunion

The house naval affairs committee approved a bill to authorize the Marine Band to attend the Arkansas and Texas Centennial celebrations and the United Confederate reunion in Shreveport Louisiana in June. The measure would appropriate 15000 for expenses. The band’s Dallas visit would align with President Roosevelt’s planned trip to those states.

Nine-pound baby born to El Campo couple

A nine-pound baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs E J Mikulenko of El Campo on April 1. The newborn is EK J Jr. Mrs Mikulenko is the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Bilert of this place. Emily Roosevelt, cousin of President Roosevelt, has begun a concert tour of European capitals.

Moulton High Band Performs in Fiesta Parade

The Moulton High School Band joined sixty bands in the Battle of Flowers parade in San Antonio on Friday afternoon. Spectators gave the ensemble a fine hand along the sidelines.
