House Passes Wage Bill Sets Higher Minimum Wage
The House approved a bill raising the minimum wage to 2.00 this year for most workers and 2.30 by 1978, extending coverage to 7 million more people including household workers. The measure, 375 to 37, adds 56.5 million workers under minimum wage rules and extends overtime to 9.5 million. It avoids a universal youth minimum and allows students to work part time at 1.60 per hour.
