County Judge Fertsch Addresses Business Men's League

County Judge Paul H. Fertsch of Hallettsville spoke at the Moulton Business Men's League meeting at the American Legion Hall. He urged pursuit of WPA road funding, explained road taxes and vehicle registration fees, and supported improving the Gonzales and Lavaca county routes with local bonds and intercounty cooperation. Ed Boehm reported on a Smithville highway meeting favoring the Flatonia to Smithville corridor. The group honored the late Rep J J Olsen with a unanimous resolution read by O F Knape.

Brenham Maifest to be Held May 18 19

This and That Brenham announces its annual Maifest on May 18 and 19 under the sponsorship of the fire department. The Victoria Bank and Trust Company has let the contract for a five story stone and granite building. The administration contemplates releasing 1 000 000 or more bales of government held cotton to meet trade demands. The St Louis Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Texas State College for Women in Denton in March.

Legislation figure J J Olsen of Yoakum dies after heart attack

J J Olsen a Lavaca county legislator died Saturday afternoon after a heart attack while inspecting cattle on his Yoakum ranch. He was 66, born in Chicago, long resident of Yoakum, served in the state house for four terms and sat on major committees. Funeral held in Yoakum with burial there. survivors include widow, two sons, three grandchildren and siblings. The Eagle extends sympathy.

Governor O Daniel Calls Election for Lavaca County

Governor W Lee O Daniel on Tuesday ordered an election in Lavaca County to be held Monday April 10 to elect a representative to fill the unexpired term of the late J J Olsen. Several candidates are expected as Lavaca has had a representative in the lower house since Olsen's death.

Moulton Branch Farmers League Holds Regular Meeting

The Moulton Branch of Lavaca County Farmers League met at the American Legion Hall with 70 members after adding several new names. Mrs. John F. Fishbeck became the first woman member. a plan to recruit more members was set for the next meeting in April.

Judge Motis Dies At Yoakum Noted Lawyer 61

Judge E J Motis, a well known Yoakum lawyer aged 61, died of a heart attack Monday. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. A Nebraska native and 1900 graduate, he practiced in Hallettsville in 1901 and lived in Yoakum since 1917. Survived by wife Carrie Vrazel Motis, daughter Hyacinthe Dobbs and grandson Jerry Dobbs, plus three sisters and three brothers. Renowned for promoting old time orchestra contests at Yoakum’s Tom Tom celebration.

Convention Program Received for Guadalupe Firemen’s Association

Maxine Frank Darilek son of Mr and Mrs Kk E Darilek of Dickson born January 29 passed away at 8 o clock Monday morning at the home of his grandparents Mr and Mrs Frank Simper after a short illness Funeral held Tuesday morning with interment in Moulton Catholic Cemetery Rev Father Kopp officiating Surviving are his parents and a sister Corrine his grandparents Mr and Mrs Frank Simper and Mrs Frank Darilek The Eagle extends sympathy to the bereaved survivors.

Mrs. Ed Boehm Sr celebrated her 77th birthday Monday March 18 at her home. A delicious lunch was served.
