Wind power plan aims to light German cities again
Hermann Honnef, a leading German electrical engineer, proposes waterwind power to combat Germany's fuel shortage. Twenty wind generators paired with pumps would drive ten turbines in the Selenter basin near Hamburg, using winds at about 300 feet to produce electricity one fifth of a cent per kilowatt hour. The system pumps water to run turbines, avoiding weather disruption, but steel shortages threaten plant construction.
