Victor L. Novak from Austin Texas and Shiner is named vice counselor of Phi Delta Chi national pharmacy fraternity. He is a UT Austin student and son of Mr. Elekar and Mrs. Brom, serving as a junior majoring in pharmacy.
The Moulton Bobkittens defeated John Foster Dulles girls 72 to 42 with Georgie Luksovsky Lillie Jasek and Bob Wenske leading scorers. They advance to the Victoria Regional playoffs at Victoria Junior College Gymnasium beginning 10 15 a m with Calallen as their opponent.
Sealed proposals for widening 1.487 miles of Lavaca County structures on US 77 and 77A between Yoakum and US 90A will be accepted until 9 00 AM March 16 1960. Work includes widening Lavaca River Bridge to a 44 foot roadway with two 46 inch sidewalks and replacing the truss with a Plate Girder Span. Plans are available from the Resident Engineer in Yoakum and the Texas Highway Department in Austin.
Russell Fisbeck two year old son of Mr and Mrs Francis Fisbeck returned home Wednesday after a six day confinement in the Renger Hospital in Hallettsville. He is reported doing fine.
Zion Lutheran Church began the Lenten observance with an Ash Wednesday service led by Rev Julius I Holm at 7 45 p m The sermon titled The Lessons of the Old Testament Sacrifices launched an eight part series on Gods Sacrifice For Man The remaining meditations will cover topics such as Gods Sacrificial Lamb The Perfect Sacrifice and The Lamb Must Sacrifice Himself All mid week services run 745 p m except on Good Friday Everyone is invited to attend.
In Houston, Mr. Ed Kolar entered the Methodist Hospital for treatment last week Thursday. The note wishes him a speedy recovery from the illness or condition prompting admission.
Charles O. Miculka age 84 of Smithville died February 20 at Bas trop hospital after brief illness. Funeral at Marrs Chapel February 22 with Presbyterian minister Rev. Peacock officiating. Interment Smithville cemetery with Masonic lodge. Survived by wife Albina Elsik Miculka and seven children. eldest son Charles predeceased him two weeks earlier. Local attendees listed.

The American Red Cross annual drive starts this week in Lavaca County with a countywide quota of 2660 dollars and local participation in Shiner Moulton and rural areas. Co chairs Fran cis Fisbeck and Tommy Hloyer outline community drives with many local organizers and drive details for 1960.
A Social Security Office representative from Victoria will be at Shiner City Hall at 9 30 a m on Monday March 7 to help residents file retirement survivor or disability claims and answer program questions.
Raymond D. Miller 32 of Islip Terrace N Y, a chauffeur supporting 11 children with four wives, was convicted of bigamy and welcomed jail as a chance to rest. He had been working night and day to support his large family.
The Fats and Leans basketball game is set for Sunday night March 6 at 7 30 at the local high school gym. It was postponed from February 24 due to bad weather and advance tickets remain valid. Tickets will be sold at the door with proceeds benefiting the Moulton PTA.
The Star Theatre presents Houseboat on Sunday March 6 starring Cary Grant Sophia Loren Martha Hyer and Harry Guardino. After his wife dies Grant raises their three children in Washington then their home is destroyed and they live on a Potomac houseboat combining romance and comedy. Miss Evelyn Stryk and Miss Florine Tousek with Miss Shirley Dierschke attend business college in Houston. Stryk studies IBM at International Business Machine School while Tousek and Dierschke take steno secretarial and IBM courses at Massey Business College. All are Moulton High School graduates.
A notice from the sergeant officer urges WW I WW II and Korean Conflict veterans widows and orphans to contact for new pension law applications before July 1 1960. Those already on rolls will receive election cards with March checks and may stay under the old law if desired until further action.
A Flatonia High School Future Farmers of America stock show will be held at the Flatonia Livestock Commission Co auction barns on March 10. Judging begins at 9 a.m. with a premium sale at 8 p.m. Judges are Lloyd Henderson and Lawrence Rosenbach of Schulenburg. Everyone is invited to attend and see the results.

Frank Koenig Sr of Floresville died Thursday at Jour danton Hospital after a long illness at age 83. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 50 p.m. at the Floresville Lutheran Church with burial in Floresville Cemetery. Survived by twelve children 36 grandchildren 29 great grandchildren and three sisters Mrs Emil Pundt of Moulton Mrs Emilie Henrichs and Mrs Paul Scott of San Antonio. Attending from here were Mrs Emil Pundt Mrs Frank Biehunke Mr and Mrs W H Pundt and Mr Ed Pundt.
