Cheyenne Wyoming February 27 report details a deadly blaze in Diamondville Coal and Coke mine No 1. Only one miner John Anderson escaped severely burned. dozens more trapped as flames swept through the mine prompting sealing of two entrances.
Austin February 26. The Texas House moved a measure allowing short lines within 115 miles to lease to connecting lines for up to ten years with commission approval. The bill, debated by Dillard Schiesy and Aschiuter, passed on third reading by 18 votes, affecting Kansas City Southern Texarkana Fort Smith and possible extensions of St Louis San Francisco and Choctaw Oklahoma to areas including Paris Marshall Sherman Fort Worth Dallas.

In Topeka Kansas on February 26 J W Adams was shot during a raid on a Curtis Street wholesale liquor house. A carload of beer was unloaded earlier, then attacked with a sledge and revolvers. Adams claims a policeman fired. Rev F W Emerson also injured lightly and was booked on resisting an officer. The raid was described as successful by those involved.
In Matteawan New Jersey a resident Herbert was hanged and released, then tortured again after a fire on January 27. He denied guilt. A later arson at his mother's house led to his arrest and suspected involvement amid kerosene soaked stairs.
