Young Texan Wins State Fire Prevention Poster Contest

David Henrichs six year old son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Hendrichs of here won first place in the State Fire Prevention Poster Contest at the 80th Annual Convention in Edinburg. His poster Keep Matches Away From Small Children emerged as the district and state winner in the Primary division among thousands of school children. The contest, sponsored by the local Fire Department Guadalupe Firemen and Fire Marshalls Association and the State Fire Department, boosts the annual fire prevention program.

Local Little Leaguers Fall to Flatonia 6 4 at Lions Field

Friday night at Lions Field the local Little Leaguers lost 6 4 to Flatonia. Pitcher Simper allowed 11 hits while Krejci yielded five hits for Flatonia. Other games include a 8 4 win over Shiner and a 22 12 defeat by Yoakum.

Local games postponed at Lions Field due to rodeo

There will be no Little League and Teenage games at Lions Field on Thursday and Friday nights June 21 22. Hallettsville was to visit but the High School Rodeo blocks both games, postponing them to a later date.

Texas Lutheran College To Sponsor Music Recreation Camp

Seguin officials announce the 15th annual Musical Recreation Camp sponsored by Texas Lutheran College from July 30 to August 10. The program features Vandercook College of Music and TLC faculty, offers two semester hours credit, and costs 55 dollars including room board and supervision.

Darlene Kuhen daughter of Mr and Mrs Jasper Kuhen returned from Temple Monday where she underwent surgery last week Wednesday. She is recovering very nicely.

Large bull snake killed by local resident

A bull snake measuring over 514 feet was clubbed to death by H. L. Sherry who lives five miles northwest of town. On Wednesday morning June 13 he found the snake near a pasture fence and struck its head with a fence post until it was nearly obliterated as it twisted and squirmed in a photo.

Cyril Vanzura Dies at 88 in Schulenburg

Cyril Vanzura 88 longtime Weimar resident and Schulenburg farmer died at his daughter’s home after weeks of illness. He was born in Praha Czechoslovakia July 5 1867 and married Anna Cajan in 1888. Funeral at St Rose Schulenburg June 11 with burial in St Rose Cemetery. Survived by four daughters.

Moulton Area Debuts Its First Irrigation System In Operation

Rudy John near Moulton operates a new irrigation unit on a 15 acre farm. A 120 foot deep well feeds a pond of 130000 gallons with a 25 hp centrifugal turbine driving sprinkler and flooding systems. The sorghum, cotton, and corn fields use sprinkler and flood methods delivering up to 300 gallons per minute along 1400 feet of pipe. Joyce Jahn shows corn stalks about nine feet tall.

Rainfall Report Sees Varied Totals Across County

Thundershowers skipped two rounds in the locality over the weekend but rain reached some parts. Moulton reported about one inch on average while nearby sections varied by a half inch. Farther south near Shiner heavy rain eased drought and filled several stock ponds.

Edwin Darilek was retained as Grand Knight of Council No. 3244 by acclamation at Moulton’s Knights of Columbus on June 13. Other officers re elected include Treas. Farm Bureau asks senators probe alleged gas price collusion

Parish Picnic Date Set For September 9

In a trustees meeting for St. Joseph's parish last week Thursday the date for the annual parish picnic was set as Sunday September 9. The second Sunday in September will host the parish activities.

Homecoming Well Attended At Old Moulton Picnic

The 18th Annual Old Moulton Homecoming was held at Nolen Park on Sunday June 10 with a basket picnic beneath live oaks. Final Rites Held For Mrs Val Kocich Moravia Resident

Funeral services for Mrs Valentine Louisa Kocich age 71 were held June 10 at 3 PM from Schwenke Baumgarten Funeral Home Chapel with Edward Marek officiating. Interment was in Schulenburg City Cemetery. Born February 24 1885 in Moravia she was the daughter of Nick and [unreadable] Havel and married Valentine Kocich on February 6 1906.

Eagles Win Third Straight as Rain Halts Five Inning Tilt

The Moulton Eagles beat the Flatonia Royal Sports 9 to 2 to secure a third consecutive victory. Pitcher Franklin Sedlar earned the win before rain ended play after five innings. Next, the Eagles travel to Weimar for a 2:00 p.m. game in a likely thriller.
