Deputy Sheriff Guy Henry was shot and seriously wounded when Edwin Chudej a 24 year old mental patient from the San Antonio State Hospital grabbed Henrys gun and fired into his body The incident occurred as they arrived at the Halletts ville county jail Henry was critically injured with a severed artery and later taken to Renger Hospital Neighbors and officers pursued Chudej who admitted the shooting and fled authorities charges of assault to murder will be filed Chudejs condition and status were updated as improved following the attack

Thief Steals Grave Decoration Funds in Glendale

A 74-year-old man reported a theft in Glendale on Memorial Day weekend. He said a thief took $4000 in cash from his car while he placed flowers at a grave, money intended as a down payment on a home. Gabriel Maloff was the named victim.

Little Leaguers Fall in Doubleheader to Hallettsville

The Hallettsville nine defeated the local Little Leaguers in both A and B games last Friday night. In the A game Moulton's Dennis Simper allowed 13 hits and two strikeouts, while Hallettsville's Strauss held strong with five hits and six strikeouts. Next, the locals travel to Shiner on June 8 to face Shiner's teams and host Hallettsville on June 12 to even the series.

Lightning Strike Breaks Faucet as Lady Is Hit May 31

Mrs Elmer EE Johnson daughter of Mrs Mary Doubra va of this city was struck by lightning Thursday May 31 during a windy rainstorm with thunder. She was watering flowers when she went out to shut off the faucet and the bolt traveled through head and right arm to the faucet bursting it and burning fingertips. A nearby TV antenna reportedly saved her life. She is reportedly fine apart from a shock.

Teenagers Fall One Run to Yoakum in Close Game

In a tight contest Monday night the local teenagers lost 10 to 9 to Yoakum at Lions Field. Moulton pitchers faced six hits and Richard Orts and Dennis Simper relieved in the sixth. Yoakum scored in four frames and four more in the final inning to seal the win. Tomorrow the locals host Flatonia at Lions Field.

Rocky Creek Brewery 1875 1882 Old Moulton area tale

The Rocky Creek Brewery 1 mile east of the former Scotts school near Moulton operated from 1875 to 1882. Built as a two story frame building with copper vats, it served beer to Halletts ville by wagon and later via ice packed cars after the railroad arrived. The brew hall doubled as a dance floor, with a storage cellar below. The well remains in use and the site is now occupied by the Schoenwietz family.
