First Bale Of Cotton Ginned At Rio Grande City
The Guerra Gin Company in Rio Grande City Texas ginned the second earliest first bale of new cotton on record. Francisco P Lozano grew the 50 acre field and supplied about 1700 pounds of seed cotton for a 570 pound bale. The bale left by truck for Corpus Christi around 3 PM Tuesday. It marks the Valley’s second earliest first bale since 1896 with Ernest Matz’s May 21 1921 bale the earliest.
