Ed criticizes leniency toward hot checks and notes local cases in Hallettsville and Wharton. A published indictment for theft by false pretext in another county and sheriff broadcasts are cited. The piece urges responsible farming and supports buying from trusted hometown merchants over fly-by-night peddlers.
Hermann Sons Lodge No. 59 in Moulton held its regular monthly meeting at Rock Inn Hall on Wednesday night July 17 at 8 o clock. President A J Breitschopf presided. roll call and singing of America preceded committee reports. After business, entertainment and a lunch of sandwiches cakes pies pastries and cold drinks followed.
Invitation to a ten day revival at Old Moulton Baptist Church starting Friday night August 2 at 8 00 p m with Brother Vernon Sy dow and Missionary Charles Dickson from Brazil. Charles Dickson is the grandson of C A Dickson former pastor of the church who has resided here for years.
Geier Merrem American Legion Post 392 presents eight entrants in the Baby Revue at the annual Legion Picnic on Sunday August 11. Voting jars will be in local stores and mothers are urged to enter. Mail entry forms with two photos to Bill Reeves. More photos to appear next week in the Eagle.
The Texas Farm Bureau Board of Directors met July 17 19 and supported giving growers of six basic commodities a real option in annual referendum voting. The Commodity Advisory Committee urged Farm Bureau to devise alternate programs for all crops, with cotton already moved toward a December ref vote in Congress.
In Florida and Mississippi a pair of fatal incidents left mothers dead while their babies survived. Mrs G C Wilhite 23 of New Albany Mississippi died after being struck by a car while carrying her 6 month old boy. Mrs Harvey King 25 of Dade City Florida was killed when lightning struck an oak tree she and her son Ronald had just examined the tree of lightning two days earlier. The baby was uninjured.
Editor and Mrs John Janacek relocate to Yoakum after four years in Moulton. Dr and Mrs James B Mott and their family now reside in the Janacek home in Yoakum.
Mark Oliver Hanna of San Antonio was stopped for speeding by Constable Daniel Koranek on Saturday. He was charged with traveling 65 mph in a 30 mph zone, appeared before Justice A. J. Darilek and paid the fine and court costs.
The Moulton Farm Bureau presents Fashions in Cotton at the Catholic Parish Auditorium Friday July 26 at 8 00 p m. The event features men women teens and children as models and is one of three style shows held in Lavaca County this week. Miss Eleanor Kucera 1957 Lavaca County Farm Bureau Queen will reign over the show. The public is cordially invited.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Texas approved a 16 mm five to six minute film promoting the Gonzales Warm Springs Rehabilitation Foundation. The project aims to show public facilities at the non profit center and aid outreach. Auxiliary 6971 of Moulton contributed cash to the effort.
Wenzel Hoepil known as Jim Hoepil dies July 22 at 11:25 am in Blue Bonnet Rest Home after eight years of ill health. He was 70 years 10 months and 11 days old born in Fayette County son of John and Johanna Hoepfl. Survived by wife Martha two sons Reinhold and Adolf, daughter Sadie Polasek, ten grandchildren, siblings Bertha Hirsch and Rudolph Freytag and brothers John and Otto Hoepfl. Funeral were at Smith Funeral Home July 24 then St. Josephs Church with interment in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers listed.
The Lavaca County Babe Ruth team held Bryan to a 7 7 tie after eight innings but yielded a ninth inning run to lose in the district tournament last Friday night in Bryan. Players Franklin Pesek Richard Orts Alvin Kocian Benjamin Darilek and Rudy Simper Jr. represented Lavaca.
Lavaca County Little League All-Stars will face Yoakum in the 1957 district tourney at Gonzales Monday. July 29 with 8:00 p m game time. Included on the 14 day squad are Allan Vana Johnny Simper and Marvin Kocian as Lavaca participants. Teams in the tournament include Yoakum Gonzales Seguin and Lockhart.
Harvey Michna reported on his attendance at Boys State in Austin. He was sponsored by the local VFW and shared notes at the regular VFW meeting.
The Mott Medical and Surgical Clinic opened with a well attended Sunday event in Moulton June 21 from 3 to 5 pm. Residents toured the new facility equipped with general treatment rooms surgery X ray and nursery. Dr. James Mott, affiliated with Stevens Park Hospital, spoke of joining the town and meeting locals as visiting doctors from El Campo Cuero Gonzales Louise and Victoria attended as well.
Captain Allen H. Darilek of Moulton receives Certificate of Safety in Military Aircraft from Brigadier General T J Du Bose while stationed at Norton AFB California. He has 1 363 accident free flight hours in Air Rescue Service over four years nine months and helped save over 4 900 people in war and peacetime missions.
