Edmund Thiede 74 of Cistern died July 12 1978 at Fayette Memorial Hospital La Grange after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were July 14 at 10 am at St Cyril and Methodist Catholic Church Cistern with burial in Cistern Catholic Cemetery. Rosary July 13 at 8 pm Smith Funeral Home Flatonia. Survived by wife Tillie Thiede three daughters four step children two sisters seven grandchildren five step grandchildren and a great grandchild. He owned Cistern Nursery. Relatives Donald Bruess Houston and Frank Bruess nearby camped Canyon Dam.
LCRA General Manager Charles Herring says the authority, joined by ten utilities, filed suit in Helena Montana to strike down Montana's 30 percent coal severance tax as unconstitutional under the Commerce Clause. The action seeks recovery of nearly 50 million dollars paid to date plus future payments and to halt further collections. Also named are state officials and several coal suppliers. The case cites environmental policy impacts and national energy compromises. The filing includes multiple utility and supplier plaintiffs and foresees an additional suit from Western Energy.

Meetings at Fort Worth Convention Center include western barbecue tours and an awards banquet.
