Rapid Rise in Telephone Calls Tied to More Phones
In 1926 the Bell System added 781000 telephones and its exchange calls rose by 1.091 billion while toll and long distance calls grew by 90500000. Improvements in service accompanied growth, with plant trouble per unit down 17 percent and toll call time averaging two minutes, a thirty five second improvement. Voice quality reached 88 percent.
