Downey Mayor Slams Waste in Los Angeles County Freeway Report
Downey Mayor Richard Jennings denounces a costly environmental impact statement for a southern Los Angeles County freeway as wasteful. He notes taxpayers spent about 2.5 million for 500 report copies and predicts total costs near 4.75 million, while Judge Harry Pregerson halted work in 1972 pending review. The study found negligible environmental effects despite 150,000 man-hours.
