Summer tax saving tips for farmers from Texas A&M

Dr Wayne Hayenga of Texas Agricultural Extension Service outlines summer tax strategies for farmers. Wages paid to children can be deducted and still count as dependents if over half their support is provided and earnings stay under 2050 dollars. Social security taxes may also be avoided for dependent children working for parents. Business vacation trips allow deducting farmer related expenses, with receipts required for expenses over 25 dollars and lodging. Keep regular hours and pay, ensure trips are business focused, and maintain solid records.
