A decomposed body was found Wednesday near the Rio Grande twelve miles below Laredo Texas. A sack contained the legs cut off at the knees to fit inside and the corpse appeared to be a returning cotton picker likely murdered for his cotton earnings.
In La Grange Texas Tom Moore was killed about 9 o clock Monday night. Robert Penn surrendered to the sheriff and is charged with the killing. A shotgun blast struck Moore in the breast. Both involved individuals are described as negroes.
Sheriff Johnson went to Colorado Texas to return D. E. Jordan on a charge of horse theft from Waelder thirteen years ago.
Beaumont reports that the senate confirmed Russie Dunn of Port Arthur as collector of the Sabine district, the new port of entry. Houston business leader John Henry Kirby visited Beaumont on Tuesday to announce the new Kirby line through timber country from Beaumont to Browndell. The project aims to expand railway access and timber trade in the region.
The plan extends the Texas and New Orleans Dallas branch toward Browndell in J county with a rifle route to a point ten miles east of Rockland and twenty two miles remaining to Browndell. Eight miles of rail have already been laid and the contract for the rest will be awarded before Jan. 15. Madisonville Texas reports Perry Rawlins and Joel Townley killed after an argument over 25 cents for fid dlers four miles south of town. Townley, about 20, died after being shot first. Rawlins, about 30, was fatally wounded thrice by an unknown shooter. Jake Moore jailed for shooting Rawlins.
San Antonio Texas report says Senator Green proposes uniting the district attorney with the county attorney in this county. District Attorney Baker predicts strong resistance, arguing the consolidation would grant the county attorney excessive power and yield no state savings.
In Eagle Lake Texas the State of Texas vs W T Eldredge for the fatal stabbing of W E Calhoun is scheduled in Bellville District Court on January 14. A large roster of witnesses for both sides will travel to the hearing.
In Orange Texas a surge of rice wagons filled the town as 5000 bags bought by New Orleans parties were loaded onto cars for shipment to New Orleans, the Crescent City.
Detective Bethel of Houston arrested P. J. Livingston in San Antonio and returned him to Houston for theft charges. Livingston had been detained by local police a few days earlier.
In New York on Wall Street it was announced that the Galveston Terminal Company secures a 5 million dollar capital to build extensive terminals in Galveston for Yoakum railroads including Trinity and Brazos Valley and St Louis Brownsville and Mexico. Frisco Rock Island and Colorado and Southern systems will gain Gulf access. Construction of fourteen blocks of local terminals starts now with Rock Island waterfront development. Total improvements are pegged at about 3.5 million dollars excluding land costs, covering dredging filling surfacing and terminal construction to match a first class facility.
Georgetown Texas reports half the town of Jonah eight miles east of Georgetown destroyed by fire at an early hour Thursday. Losses include J P Nowlin & Co building and stock 5500 with 3300 insurance J S Gillespie building and groceries 3000 with 1500 insurance J F Gault two houses and goods 2000 with 900 insurance T C Palmer butcher shop 200 no insurance Several buildings not insured.
A fire destroyed the fix a ceee square in the Gibbs frame building at 2 30 Thursday morning. No other property suffered damage. Insurance on stock and fixtures stood at 3250 with stock valued 5700 and the building valued at 1200 insured for 800.
Captain John P. Lytle of Fort Worth secretary of the Cattle Raisers’ Association of Texas died in San Antonio at 8 P M on Thursday night at the home of his son John N Lytle at Matamoros and Brazos streets He came to San Antonio on January 1 after a period of serious illness Born in Pennsylvania in 1844 he moved to Texas at 16 and served in Captain Sam Lytle’s company Woods’ regiment during the Civil War Later he operated a ranch at what became Lytie’s station after returning to Texas
In Taylor Texas two Maralik daughters aged 10 and 12 were playing with a target rifle when it discharged. The bullet struck the older girl just below the left eye in Brushy Creek area. The incident injured both siblings and prompted medical attention.

A horse owned by Dr. John Morris in Madisonville Texas fell while attempting to jump a picket fence Saturday night and was disemboweled. The animal was valued at about $125.
Columbus Ohio reports penitentiary authority from the governor for transferring prisoner essie Chadwick and three others to the government at Moundsville West Virginia and offering eighteen inmates including four bankers to the Federal District in Atlanta Georgia. Victims named include B Spear of Oberlin and others from Chadwick Toledo and Cleveland.
