Collision at sea sinks Walla Walla with loss of many
The steamship Walla Walla struck by an unknown French bark off Cape Mendocino sank within 35 minutes. Sixty five survivors were saved by the Dispatch and Ranger after chaotic drift in fog. The ship valued at 250000 dollars, insured for 200000, had carried 36 first class and 28 second class passengers and eighty crew. Captain Hall perished with the vessel.

Powers leaves a wife and family, a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Paskey leaves a wife and family at 80.
