Red Cross chairmen are listed to coordinate relief efforts with Mrs. C. J. Waldrep as County Chairman Mrs. F. J. Fietsam in Shiner Mrs. T. Cook in Hallettsville and Wm Miculka in Moulton urged to answer the call for help.
The Gonzales Production Credit Association held its annual meeting in Gonzales and Floresville with over 1 100 members and families attending. About 20 percent of Lava County members were present. Two director terms expire in 1954. Mike Brocker Jr. of Hallettsville was named to the nominating committee. Secretary Treasurer Frank J Boehm reported 1 700 members statewide and growth from 25 dollars capital to over 750 000 in 19 years. Loans outstanding total 2 700 000 and nearly 5 000 000 has been loaned since inception.
Mrs Albert Meyer of Flatonia won a $45 prize on a National Broadcasting Company network program Name That Tune. She submitted five tune titles. the host and audience failed to identify them, limiting her prize despite effort.
John E. Bartlett of the Internal Revenue Service explains the $600 exemption for each closely related dependent. A dependent must receive more than half of total support from the taxpayer, and gross income of $600 or more disqualifies dependents. Restrictions apply to dependents who are another taxpayer’s, who file jointly, or are non residents unless they reside in the United States Mexico or Canada.
Eugene I Bartek son of Mr and Mrs Emil Bartek of Moulton writes his parents he has safely arrived at Yokosuka Japan on February 7. He notes the country is very interesting and he can see places he studied in history. Bartek has served in the Navy for a year.
Students enjoyed an entertain program led by Mrs. Nellie Lawrence. Leroy Rathkamp and Eugene Jurena picked sides for a balloon burst contest which Leroy won. A memory test with fifteen articles in a box named Pat Hermes as winner with thirteen items recalled.
The 200 model trailer coach displays at the 1953 Mobile Homes Show at the Shamrock Hotel in Houston. Fully furnished with major appliances included, the homes will be shown to the public March 7 and 8. Show sponsored by the Trailer Coach Manufacturers Association.
