Moulton Couples Golden Wedding Highlighted With Celebration

The Moulton area marks a golden wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Petrek at the VFW Hall after 50 years of marriage. Mass and a family breakfast followed a day of honors. they have nine children, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Many relatives traveled from diverse Texas towns to attend.

Mrs Gottlieb Gummelt Dies at Hallettsville

Mrs. Gottlieb Gummelt, 81, mother of Gus Gummelt of near Moulton, died at Hallettsville Monday afternoon after a long illness. Burial was in Hallettsville Wednesday. The Eagle will carry a more extended notice next week.

White's Live Oak Center Opens With Celebration

The grand opening of White's Live Oak Center Sunday drew a good-sized crowd. Lunch was served in the afternoon and a dance closed the day with music by the Henkhaus Playboys. The center lies four miles west of Moulton on the Moulton Gonzales road, after the association acquired the Culak school property.

Moulton Chamber Plans Banquet and Parking Upgrades

The Moulton Chamber of Commerce held its regular meeting at the high school gym. President Joe Vanham Jr announced banquet committee appointments and invited Dooley Dawson to speak. The mail route committee began work, two trophies were approved for the district track meet, and graveling for an additional street parking area will start once a loader is available.

2832 Men Added To Texas Manpower Pool

Texas draft boards added 2832 men to the manpower pool in January bringing total available for service to 51427. Colonel Paul Wakefield, state director of Selective Service, reported 11260 men were newly classified in January with 8878 placed in deferred status. Local boards registered 6038 youths reaching 18 in January, with total registrations for the year and rolls reaching 530538 and 371168 classified by month end.

Local VFW WINS Commendation For 1950 Membership Effort

Albert Pavlicek, commander of the Moulton VFW Post, received a letter from Julian Dickenson, Texas Department Commander, praising the post for matching or surpassing 1949 membership for 1950. The note directs the commendation be read at the next meeting and filed permanently. By February 13 the post stood at 103.6 percent of last year’s membership.

J. R. Brooks, father of Mrs. Charles Luksovsky of Moulton, dies at Comanche Hospital after illness. Born December 16, 1880 in Georgia, he was 69. Survived by wife Mamie Viola White, four daughters and five sons, with 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild. burial at Downing Cemetery.

Funeral Services Held for Carl Blaschke in Skidmore Texas

Carl Blaschke 82 of Skidmore Texas died recently and funeral services were held in Skidmore February 15 with burial in Skidmore Cemetery under Sons of Herman auspices. He lived in Skidmore since 1890 and ran a gin business. Survived by wife two daughters one son and ten others indicated.

The Gonzales County Commissioners' Court appoints Mrs. Genevieve Bradley Vallen tine as county superintendent of schools to fill the unexpired term of her late father G. E. Bradley who died February 5. Mrs. Vallen tine, a University of Texas graduate, succeeds a 29 year tenure by her father.

Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Landrum with son Jim Bob spend Sunday in Moulton with relatives. Mrs. Landrum and Jim Bob stay as Mr. Landrum travels to Atlantic City New Jersey for a school administrators conference. He is superintendent of the Spring Branch School in Houston.
