On February 13 a 5 inch rainfall caused overflow from a Soil Conservation tank on Herbert Raab’s 100 acre Oak Grove farm. The 100 yard dam released water from a 70 acre drainage area into a tank holding about three acres of water with a 14 ft depth. Raab practices soil conservation in all respects.

Fined For Reckless Driving In Houston

Laddie Machacek of 3636 Rice Blvd Houston was cited for reckless driving within city limits Sunday afternoon. He appeared Monday before Justice A J Darilek and was fined 30 30 including court costs after arrest by Constable Daniel Koranek.

Mrs Albert Vlasak Dies in Gonzales at 78

Mrs Albert Vlasak died at Crews Hospital in Gonzales on February 1 at age 78. Funeral services were held February 12 at St James Catholic Church in Gonzales with Rev Peter Roebrooks officiating. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery. Born December 3 1879 in Czechoslovakia she married Albert Vlasak on February 23, 1903 in Shiner. Surviving husband listed.

Local Scout Troop 221 Holds Meeting and Fundraiser

The local Boy Scout Troop 221 met on Wednesday February 13 to discuss second class requirements and camporee preparations. They handed out Blood Bank circulars on February 16 and planned a Mexican style meal fundraiser with date to be announced. Eighteen donors contributed blood Sunday at the local high school gymnasium for the Houston VA Hospital. Mr. August Eilert of this city gathered four eggs from White Giant Leghorns averaging 13 ounces each. One egg measured 6 1 8 inches in circumference and 7 5 8 inches long. He bought the White Giants from Wyatt Hatchery in Hallettsville.

Disturbing Peace Charges Filed Here

Joe Pekar of San Marcos faced disturbing the peace charges after a VFW Hall dance incident on Saturday night February 2. Deputy sheriff Wm. Kort wig filed the case. Pekar paid a $25.46 fine in Judge A. J. Darilek's JP Court.

Mrs J Holub Sr laid to rest after long illness

Marie Holub 80 11 8 died February 19 at Blue Bonnet Rest Home after a 14 day illness. Born Marie Mikulik in Czechoslovakia she came to the United States at age six living in Praha and Novohrad. Frank Okruhlik 74 dies at Shiner hospital

Frank Okruhlik age 74 years 1 month 26 days of Praha died Sunday at Shiner hospital. Services 8:15 a.m. at home and 8:30 a.m. at Praha Catholic Church with Rev. Marcus Valenta presiding. Burial in Praha Catholic Cemetery. He was born December 22, 1882 in Novohrad community and married Mary Vana October 10, 1911. He farmed in Novohrad, later moved to Praha and was an officer in St Wenceslaus Society KJT No 1. Survivors include his wife.
