The Bobkatz defeated Hallettsville in a decisive game to win District 31 A. Coaches Norman Strandtman and Thomas Hoyer praised for their leadership. The team is also showing strong potential for a girls division championship.

On February 13 a 5 inch rainfall caused overflow from a Soil Conservation tank on Herbert Raab’s 100 acre Oak Grove farm. The 100 yard dam released water from a 70 acre drainage area into a tank holding about three acres of water with a 14 ft depth. Raab practices soil conservation in all respects.
Laddie Machacek of 3636 Rice Blvd Houston was cited for reckless driving within city limits Sunday afternoon. He appeared Monday before Justice A J Darilek and was fined 30 30 including court costs after arrest by Constable Daniel Koranek.
The Moulton Chamber of Commerce designated May 1 for its annual banquet. President James Kolar led a Monday meeting reviewing proposed legislation on rural high school annexation and noting no current bills. Efforts to secure a Social Security Administration representative in Moulton continue, with a district office opening in Victoria aiding access.
The Moulton Knights of Columbus formalized opposition to a Tito visit to the United States. A second domino tournament is planned with Lee Jarosek as chair man. A wildlife conservation proposal cleared committee stage as the council weighs bird hunts and rabbit hunt memories influence fundraising.
Mrs Albert Vlasak died at Crews Hospital in Gonzales on February 1 at age 78. Funeral services were held February 12 at St James Catholic Church in Gonzales with Rev Peter Roebrooks officiating. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery. Born December 3 1879 in Czechoslovakia she married Albert Vlasak on February 23, 1903 in Shiner. Surviving husband listed.
The local Boy Scout Troop 221 met on Wednesday February 13 to discuss second class requirements and camporee preparations. They handed out Blood Bank circulars on February 16 and planned a Mexican style meal fundraiser with date to be announced. Scoutmaster Charles Luksovsky led the meeting and Scout Squire Keith Strandtman participated.
Eighteen donors contributed blood Sunday at the local high school gymnasium for the Houston VA Hospital. Volunteers and Houston representatives led by Claude Sherry organized the drive, listing donors such as Edgar Keil Daniel Brom Fred Hirsch Hanslik Norman Strandtman Erwin Oehl Jacob Tousek Evelyn Darilek Frankie Darilek and others.
The Merchants Free Circus under the Plunkett family Troupe comes to Moulton Lions Field with three performances on Saturday morning, afternoon, and night. The show features Cookie the Chimpanzee Starlite pony Acrobats and Aviators Henrietta the elephant and an old Steam Calliope. Palace of Wonders highlights a 27 foot python Sam the Gorilla a 5 legged hog and Billy the Penguin. Pony rides and elephant seating offered with a small admission charge.
Mr. August Eilert of this city gathered four eggs from White Giant Leghorns averaging 13 ounces each. One egg measured 6 1 8 inches in circumference and 7 5 8 inches long. He bought the White Giants from Wyatt Hatchery in Hallettsville.
Joe Pekar of San Marcos faced disturbing the peace charges after a VFW Hall dance incident on Saturday night February 2. Deputy sheriff Wm. Kort wig filed the case. Pekar paid a $25.46 fine in Judge A. J. Darilek's JP Court.
Marie Holub 80 11 8 died February 19 at Blue Bonnet Rest Home after a 14 day illness. Born Marie Mikulik in Czechoslovakia she came to the United States at age six living in Praha and Novohrad. Survived by husband Joe Holub Sr four daughters four sons three sisters two brothers 39 grandchildren 44 great grandchildren. Funeral from Smith Funeral Home February 20 at 9 15 am then St Joseph Church at 9 30 am with Rev Bernard Goebel officiating. Interment Moulton Catholic Cemetery. Rosary recited February 19 at 7 30 pm.
H A Jaroszewski 68 died at his home in San Antonio on Sunday February 10. Funeral services were held February 12 at 2 PM in Southside Funeral Home chapel with Rev Herman W Dannhaus officiating. Burial was at Mission Burial Park. He was born April 27 1888 in Washington County to Fred and Emily Krause Jaroszewski.
The Moulton Farmers Co Op Gin Mill & Feed Company will close at 10 a m Monday February 25 and remain closed all day due to its annual stockholders meeting.
Dr J C Burt is back in the community and available for calls to render medical services. He had been out since Christmas for an extended rest but is now providing aid even before the clinic officially opens.
The Moulton Bobkatz defeated Hallettsville 43 37 to finish 10 1 in District 30 A play and claim the championship. Coach Norman Strandtman’s team led 10 11 after the first quarter and 18 21 at halftime, with Hallettsville forcing a 31 31 deadlock late in the game before Moulton pulled away in the final minutes. Players listed include Leroy Kubenka Benjamin Machale Raymond Lockstedt Kenneth Fishbeck Benedict Jasek Paul Flessner Jr Oscar Kubenka Joe Darilek Charle Sedlar David Anderle Edward Pavlicek. Bloomington game slated tonight at home.
Frank Okruhlik age 74 years 1 month 26 days of Praha died Sunday at Shiner hospital. Services 8:15 a.m. at home and 8:30 a.m. at Praha Catholic Church with Rev. Marcus Valenta presiding. Burial in Praha Catholic Cemetery. He was born December 22, 1882 in Novohrad community and married Mary Vana October 10, 1911. He farmed in Novohrad, later moved to Praha and was an officer in St Wenceslaus Society KJT No 1. Survivors include his wife.
The St. Joseph School Club sponsors an Anniversary Social at St. Joseph Catholic Gym on Sunday February 24. A chili supper with homemade bread apple pie and coffee will be served from 6:00 p m. Games will be played during the event.
In a ceremony, the fifteen millionth Scout Handbook was presented to Mayor W. H. Pundt of Moulton to honor his support for expanding Boy Scouts of America influence. The presentation by Capitol Council Area and local scouts honors the handbook’s message of service, courage, and good citizenship.
Jerry Kalina, a local barber, was notified as a winner of a Fitch Electric Wall Clock in the 1956 Fitch Barbers Contest. The event involved hair shampooing and related barber tasks.
