Actual work began on seventy five pound steel between Whitesboro and Texarkana this morning. A large force of men will be kept at work to complete the change as soon as possible. The distribution of steel extended to Sherman today.
F. J. Short of the Indian Territory arrives in New York with no prior connections and secures major funding for the Arkansas Missouri and Kansas railroad from Memphis to Chanute via Joplin. A local trust company and a London syndicate each invest 6.5 million dollars. Short returns West elated.

In Hammond Texas McLarron a Black man living nearby was attacked about a mile south of Bremond after riding in on the midnight train from Marlin. He was robbed of his cash and left badly beaten by three Black men. No clue to the assailants has been found.
In Greenville Texas Ed Mathis and J A Pate murder cases transferred from Kaufman County will be tried April 20. Each case has a venue of two hundred men. Witnesses come from Kaufman and Van Zandt counties and summoning them will take time.
An explosion followed by a fire caused 75000 in damages at the Arlington company works in Arlington New Jersey. No injuries reported and investigators began surveying the scene for causes.
Texarkana Texas report says L G Cott 45 a widower and yard section foreman for Texas and Pacific was repairing a car when a switch engine backed into it. He was knocked down and run over, dying instantly. He left three grown sons.

Oil men arrived in Ottine Texas to bid on small land parcels selling at good figures. Prospects show oil in the county and it remains to be seen if quantities are payable. A large shipment of well boring equipment reached Ottine this week and deep-well drilling will start soon.
About twenty five Denison newsboys walked off the job today over pay. They had been earning 3 cents per paper on Sundays while the circulators offered 2 1 2 cents, sparking a local stir and much amusement.
Smithville Texas J B Primm returned from Fort Worth and purchased for his stock farm the Red Polled thoroughbred Chancellor II for 1200 dollars. The bull earned first premium at Dallas and San Antonio fairs last year and will join Primm's large Red Polled herd.
