Line of clothes and spring setup described for taut operation
The text explains attaching the end of a clothes line past a spring to a hook with ample slack so the weight loads the line after the spring stretches a quarter of its length. It notes the arrangement keeps the line taut without hindering use and credits Popular Mechanics for the illustration.
