Who Must File An Income Tax Return
Collector of Internal Revenue Frank Schofield announced that about 100000 more South Texans must file an income tax return this year due to new laws. Personal exemptions dropped from 1000 to 800 for singles and from 2500 to 2000 for married couples, while the dependent credit remains 400 per child or indigent adult. Any person with gross income of 800 or more, plus certain married couples, must file. Joint returns require both signatures unless an agent signs for both, and deputies offer free advisory help. Local social notes conclude with residents’ recent travels.
