Local Legion Sets Picnic and Meetings With Donations

The Geier-Merrem Post No. 392 American Legion held a regular meeting with a large turnout. They voted a $10 donation to the polio drive and planned a March birthday anniversary chicken barbecue for members and families. The annual Legion picnic was set for Sunday August 10 as an all day event. The Auxiliary met with Mrs John Janacek presiding and approved a $5 donation to the March of Dimes and another $5 to the Red Cross. The Blood Bank was discussed with members asked to bring sheets and volunteers assigned for blood donations. Additional talks covered the Anniversary Dinner, Birthday Calendar, and Auxiliary Library.

Over 11 000 boys and leaders participate in Cub Pack Scout Troop and Explorer Unit observances across nine districts with city hall courthouse events and a large February 9th parade in Austin to the State Capitol followed by a 11 00 A M entry for the governor. Fireman Suffers Toe Injury on Moving Fire Truck

Ron Henry Schoenfeld, local firefighter and electrician, sustained a broken toe and sprained ankle on a 11:30 a.m. fire call. He hopped off a moving fire truck, misjudging its stop, causing the injury. He received treatment in Shiner.

Historic Monument Planned For Old Moulton Cemetery

Lavaca County Historical Committee meets to place three monuments honoring pioneer settlers. One marker will honor Isaac Hamilton from the Texas War for Independence and will be set at his wife's grave site in Old Moulton Cemetery. Zat Johnson attends from the locality.

Fire Department Responds To Stove Blaze In Moulton

A portable gasoline stove owned by Ed Pundt at Moulton Hardware caused a flash fire when the tank leaked during repairs. Local firemen arrived promptly and prevented further damage, saving the stove from total loss.

Three Arrested For Peace Disturbance At VFW Hall

Julius Beyer and Anton Beyer were charged with disturbing the peace at the VFW Hall dance Saturday night. Julius was jailed overnight in Hallettsville and both men paid fines Monday morning before Justice A J Darilek. Zeferin Kocian faced a separate charge that same night and paid a fine total of 25.94.

Local Chamber Sets Holiday Dates for Moulton

The Chamber of Commerce announces observance dates for the coming year in Moulton. The list includes Good Friday at 12 Noon Balance Day April 19 Independence Day July 4 Labor Day September 2 Veterans Day November 11 Thanksgiving November 28 Christmas December 25 and New Year January 1 1958.

Blood Bank Set For February 17 at Local High School

Preparations for a community blood drive at the local high school gymnasium on Sunday February 17 are underway with Houston blood bank staff overseeing operations. Volunteers will assist with nursing, clerical tasks, and ushering as donors are urged to give blood by 8:30 AM. Donors should avoid eating or coffee two and a half hours before giving. minors aged 18 to 21 require parental consent.

March of Dimes Drive Reaches $601 Total in Local Efforts

Despite the drought, residents of Moulton and surrounding rural areas contributed to the March of Dimes. Chairman Wm. L. Young reported $601.05 collected, with $190.45 from the ladies' canvass, $202.04 from rural areas, $186.80 from business firms and organizations, and $21.76 from the Public School collection.

Moulton Bobkatz Remain Undefeated In District Play

The Moulton Bobkatz improved to eight wins and no losses by beating Louise 51 44 on February 1 and Ganado 46 29 on February 5. Annie Jasek set a free throw record by sinking 21 of 23 attempts. The Bobkittens led Louise 53 49, adding a 74 29 win over Ganado.

Gun recovered east of Sheridan from theft at Eagle editor home

A .22 semi-automatic rifle stolen from Eagle Editor Edwin Gallia Jr was found beside the Middle Sandy Creek bridge on Highway 90 A about two miles east of Sheridan. Sheriff Theo Long and Constable Wm Renger confirmed the rifle to Gallia and investigation continues for the two remaining firearms a .22 revolver and a six shot bolt action 12 gauge shotgun linked to related robberies in nearby areas.

The Texas special United States Senate race gathers six candidates led by Hugh Wilson of Port Arthur who filed for the April 2 ballot. Boy Scout Week Focuses on Growth and National Jamboree

National observance February 6 to 12 marks the 47th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Since 1910 the movement has served over 26 million scouts and leaders with the Four Year Program Onward for God and My Country. The week builds toward the Fourth National Jamboree in Washington Valley Forge with 111,000 units preparing and rededicating members.
