Pioneer Resident Joe Kubenka Sr. of Moulton Dies
Joe Kubenka Sr. a longtime Moulton resident born in 1861 in Czechoslovakia died at his home Sunday February 2 after months of illness. He and Katharine Hound married in 1885 and lived near Moulton before moving to town in 1919. Funeral Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in Moulton Catholic Cemetery. He leaves a widow, six children, 18 grandchildren, two brothers, one sister and many relatives.

Return of WWII U.S. servicemen remains to begin in August

About 135 attendees gathered January 31 at Hallettsville for an orchard school led by C. R. Heaton extension horticulturist. Heaton lectured on site selection spray equipment disease and insect control and fruit tree propagation. He stressed every family should try to grow fruit trees for home use and listed Lavaca County favorites such as plums figs pears grapes dewberries blackberries pecans persimmons peaches and some citrus.
