An editorial toward the end of 1939 wishes readers a prosperous 1940. It cautions about foreign entanglements and propaganda while urging Americans to stay united and peaceful. The piece thanks subscribers and contributors and expresses resolve to merit continued support.
Edwin von Lienen and Sammie Elizabeth Love were married in Shiner at 5 P M on Friday December 22 by Rev Richard Schuetze. Witnesses were Harvey Louis Fehrenkamp and Anne Neugebauer. They left for a trip to San Antonio and Corsicana. The groom is from Moulton and a 1984 Moulton High School graduate who studied at Texas Lutheran College and served at Fort Sam Houston. The bride, daughter of Corsicana residents, has taught at Sam and Will Moore Institute and made many friends in the town. The Eagle extends congratulations.
A hunter named Lee Jarosek brought down an eight point buck near Uvalde last week. The deer weighed 90 pounds dressed and yielded fine venison. The note ends with thanks to Mr Jarosek.
Mr and Mrs Frank J Wagoner spent last week Thursday visiting in San Antonio.
Mr and Mrs William Schultz of Hermleigh are visiting relatives in Moulton.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Shandera of San Antonio spent the holidays with home folks. Mr L B Zschappel and family of Brenham spent the holidays with relatives in Moulton.
Mr. J. P. Williams and his son J. P. Jr. of Houston visited Christmas with Mrs. Williams and the family, joining relatives for the holiday.
Geier Merrem Post No 3892 and Auxiliary held their annual Christmas program at the Legion Hall on Wednesday night December 20 with Santa Claus present and gifts for all the children. Local residents and visitors include Mr and Mrs Low York Spofford Arnold Papacek UT Austin student visiting home Mr Jesse Rehmet and family from San Antonio Mrs Ed Boehm Sr family visit Mrs Claude Hoover and daughter El Paso visit Ed Boehm home Miss Elizabeth Kubicek Sybil Pustejovsky Victoria Junior College students home for holidays Mr and Mrs Willie Boehm and daughter Corrine Ganado visiting Aug Wenske ill.
Mrs. Ed Boehm senior Mrs. Fred Fehrenkamp Mrs. Adella Kneses Mrs. Jacob Stainacher and Mrs. Elo Fehrenkamp attended the funeral of Mrs. Nickel in Flatonia last Saturday.
Miss Catherine Wood of Houston Miss Doris Scott of Dennison Mr and Mrs Frank Brinkman of Bastrop and Ross Johnson of Gonzales spent Christmas in the home of Mrs Bertha Wood.
Mrs J T Jaeggi is recovering in a Galveston hospital and spent Christmas at home. Also visiting were Mr and Mrs Clint Small Jr Mis Dorothy Jean and James Jaeggi of Austin for the holidays.
A broad New Year message lists local businesses and establishments from lumber to liquor stores and barber shops, thanking patrons of the year gone and seeking continued confidence. Named are Fehrenkamp Sons, Boehm firms, Piggly Wiggly, Texaco service stations, Raab shops, Moulton-area banks, churches, and numerous small enterprises across the town.
The Lavaca County Home Demonstration Council gathered at the Masonic Hall Hallettsville on Saturday December 16. Reports showed 45 mattresses made several thousand containers of foods canned six pressure cookers purchased and many frame gardens completed. 4-H Club girls performed a Christmas folk dance as part of the event.

The Census Bureau reports this year's cotton crop through December 13 at 11,275,000 bales, down from 11,412,189 a year ago. Texas ginnings reached 2,667,172 bales, versus 2,984,621 bales last year.
The Ko mensky School speech class presented the three act comedy drama Aaron Slick from Pumpin Crick at the schoolhouse on December 17. Cast included Erwie Bratrich Melvin Wustenbart Eugene Wenske Viola Barborak Ethel Mae Mikulik Edna Vogt and Nattie Lee Wenske. The play was a great success.
Moulton schools close Friday afternoon for the Christmas holidays. Nearly all teachers have gone home for the holiday period. Classes resume Tuesday morning January 2, 1940.
