Houston man George Krager 26 paid a $1 traffic fine for a stop sign violation and faced added fees. His clerk charged $5.50 for a trial fee $10 for the district attorney and $2 for the sheriff totaling $17.50 in fees. Krager, an official worker, said the county wasted little time on the trial.
Merle Sue Boehm un named infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Gene M of San Antonio has been a patient at Baptist Memorial Hospital since last week Thursday. She is improving and expects a short confinement. Granddaughter named Rosenauer of his Emp is listed in the notice.
In winter 1910 Frank Raab photographed the Sam and Will Moore Institute from the Vince Papacek home window. The building was then the only structure on the property, now expanded with multiple facilities including the high school district tax office, Home Economics, cafeteria, new elementary, gym, Agriculture and Manual Training shop, music room and bus building. The bell once sounded daily has since been replaced by an electric system.
The Moulton Fire Department answered three calls in two days. A December 20 grass fire at the Albert Kurtz place threatened the Vernon Botard home but was contained. A Saturday fire at Frank Mikulencak farm destroyed a tin barn with 22 loads of corn and 120 bales of feed, with a cow shed and feed stacks lost. origin unknown. A later grass fire at Ann Few residence was extinguished before damage, sparked by a fire cracker.
Elliott E. Knesek ACS now stationed at Alvin Callender Field in New Orleans arrived last week to spend the holiday with his parents Edwin J. and Mrs. Knesek and his niece Linda Kay. He was transferred to the local base in September.
Pvt. Larry Maresh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maresh, completed six months of service and received his discharge on December 17. He was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
A 19 year old Kansas City youth died after his father refused a blood transfusion for a neck wound from a .22 caliber accidental shooting. Doctors warned he would die without the transfusion, which the family rejected on religious grounds.
Secretary Ezra Benson told the American Farm Bureau Federation that Congress should grant discretionary authority to set price supports for corn wheat cotton rice and peanuts between 60 and 90 percent of parity. He proposed a nonpartisan commission to help fix rates and noted opposition from some congressmen who fear broad power. The convention urged moving to end current price controls and production programs.
In Fairbanks Alaska a 12 year old boy admitted starting the fire that destroyed most of the Lathrop Building on November 23 and killed Dr Druska Schaible a biology professor at the University of Alaska investigators reported
The Moulton Hermann Sons Lodge No. 59 met December 19 at the VFW Hall with large attendance. August Seifert received a 50 year pin, memory of late member R H Schodde was honored, and officers were elected with A J Breitschopf continuing as head.
Laura Niemann age 80 died December 18 at Alvin rest home after pneumonia. Born November 3, 1877 near Fintonia Fayette County. Survived by four daughters, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral held at Smith Funeral Home with service noted.
Pvt. Albert Kahekilikui ikalewa okamehameha of Wailuku Hawaii believes he has the longest middle name in the armed forces. The name means Thunder Oh Great Chief of the Island. Kahekulu is a combat trainee at Fort Carson Colorado.
The Moulton Lions Club organized July 3 1941 with 18 charter members. Charter night August 7 1941 at the High School Gym. Schulenburg helped. The club funded recreation fields, aircraft observation tower, lighting poles, and various drives. It sponsored FFA 4 H shows, polio drives, Girls State, Boys State, Little League, and community fundraisers. Membership rose to 51 in 1948 49, now 16 with good attendance and ongoing projects.
In the Moulton High School Basketball Tournament Bobkatz and Bobkittens dominated with broad margins. Final: Moulton 53 Hal lettsville Sacred Heart 35. Girls All Star picks Annie Jasek Ora Nell Findeisen Carol Ann Darilek. Boys All Stars Kenneth Fishbeck Ben Machabe with gold medals.
Funeral services for 60 year old R H Schodde were conducted at Alamo Funeral Home in San Antonio on Saturday December 21 at 10 am. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park 1701 Austin Highway. He died Tuesday December 17. Pallbearers included Marvin Haase Herbert Roy Haase Arthur Schodde Warne Schodde Robert L. Scott and Mr Echols.
