Wartime Prohibition Upheld by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court unanimously sustained the wartime prohibition act as constitutional. Justice Brandeis indicated the wartime dry period could end by presidential proclamation of demobilization. The court did not rule on Volstead enforcement or beer alcohol content, leaving those cases for later. The decision ends hopes of a wet Christmas as repeal before constitutional prohibition takes effect remains unlikely.
