Students at Moulton High School participated in the 31st Annual Voice of Democracy Broadcast Scriptwriting Scholarship Program sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary. Winners were Jo Ann Surman first, Susan Weathers second, and Liz Chaloupka third.
Band director Robt Janota of Moulton High School sustained back and leg injuries in a one vehicle crash on FM Road 966 south of Shiner on Saturday. He was hospitalized after his 1977 Chevrolet pickup rolled over once, the vehicle a total loss. He is recovering at Shiner Hospital.
Larry Swanke a sophomore at Moulton High School placed first at the District Band Tryouts in El Campo on November 29 earning a spot at the Regional Tryouts in Vanderbilt on December 8. He finished sixth at regional, earning third chair in the Regional Concert Band. The concert is January 6 and 7 in Port Lavaca. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Luke Swonke of Moulton.
Moulton Bobkittens repeat as champions at the Luling Invitational by defeating Gonzales 72 to 42 and Randolph 61 to 42. Liz Chaloupka led with 30 points, Kathy Zidek boosted 23, while the defense limited opponents despite 34 Falls City turnovers.
First grader Sean McCormick earns a place on the honor roll along with Stephanie Martinez Amy Kresta John Cinadr Jackie Fishbeck sixth grader Eustacia Kleihege and Beverly Roznovsky who are also named on the list.

A letter from Ralph DeAnda of the Texas Industrial Commission to Moulton Mayor Harry E. Meyer discusses potential funding for a new sewage plant. DeAnda notes Phase II EPS funding chances in January with possible notification by March and places Moulton 79th on the small cities list, suggesting construction is likely if funded.
Sidney Bochat will assume ownership of the Fire and Casualty business of the Biehunko Insurance Agency effective January 1, 1978. L. T. Biehunko will remain active in Life and Health Insurance. The agency stays in the same location under the same name serving Moulton since 1923 with Western Insurance Company Aetna and Floyd West lines along with Great Southern Life and Transport Life.
The American Legion Junior Auxiliary plans Christmas caroling on December 19. Local members will visit community members spreading holiday cheer.
Mrs. Rudy Annie Rebeck returned from Shiner Hospital after nine days, now doing fine. Chas F. Dennis came home from the V A Hospital in San Antonio after two weeks for a heart condition, improving. Mrs. Annie Daphne of Shady Oak Nursing Home was admitted to Shiner Hospital by Moulton ambulance. Louis Pavlicek Sr. remained at DeTar Hospital in Victoria since November 28, showing improvement.
Adolph Kocian of Moulton died December 7 at Shiner Hospital at 86. He was born August 20, 1891 in Lavaca County Moravia and married Frances Motal in Praha. A WWI veteran, he belonged to the Moulton American Legion for 52 years. funeral held December 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Legion and VFW graveside rites at Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. August Janak of Moravia, and Mr. August Zatopek with Mr. Rudy Jahn of Moulton are new residents at Shady Oak Nursing Home. They receive a warm welcome from the facility.
Moulton Chamber of Commerce invites entries for a Christmas Decoration Contest with a $1 entry fee. Prizes of 7.00, 5.00, and 3.00 will be awarded in two categories, Window-Door and House-Yard, with judging on December 20. Entries may be made at Petrek's Farm & Ranch Supply or mailed to Box 482.

Eight members of Columbian Squires Circle No. 2622 traveled to Dallas Texas for the Texas Squire Circle Mid-Year meeting. They left Saturday December 10 with Chief Counsellor Sidney Bochat arriving for a 10 a.m. counsellor meeting and checked into the Marriott Hotel.
Court Father Joseph Kopp held a reception for new members on Thursday December 1 after Mass at 7 o'clock. Officers participated in the ritual with Regent Regina Kleihege welcoming new members from Moulton. See CDA, Page 3, Col. 5.
Liz Chaloupka and Donna Bohuslav repeat on the All-Tournament team at Luling, each earning second honors after last year. Chaloupka led the Kittens with 22.7 points per game and Bohuslav added 15.3, both senior co-captains. Sharon Gaertner earned her first All-Tournament selection as a Kitten guard and topped the team with 33 rebounds and 10 steals.
Sidney Jasek son of Mr and Mrs Daniel Jasek made the vice president's honor roll at Texas State Technical Institute in Waco for the past semester He earned all A's with one B He is a 1976 graduate of Moulton High School and studies Auto Mechanics
Santa Claus will appear at Machart's Grocery in Charlottenburg this Friday December 16 at 8 00 P M. Bring the kiddies and enjoy the festive visit with local shoppers.
A combined Birthday and Christmas Party was held Sunday afternoon December 11 at Shady Oak Nursing Home. Co hosting were Catholic Daughters Hertha Dietschke and Viasta Migl. Honorees enjoyed a birthday table while a skit by Mrs. Jerry Matus and Sharon Kubicek entertained in Czech German and English. Five Moulton Elementary students performed Christmas carols and Gene Selzer Jr. played a flute. Sherrie Hanslik joined to sing, gifts were given by Santa Claus Steven Olle and helpers, and relatives closed with more carols. Volunteers Erna Raab Adellia Fisbeck Della Dari lek Minnie Pundt assisted.
A large crowd attended the Moulton VFW and Auxiliary Christmas party at the VFW Hall. A stew dinner was served, Santa Claus gave out gifts at 1 30 p m, and a free appreciation dance followed at 3 p m with Adolph Hofner and His Pearl Wranglers. The next VFW auxiliary meeting is set for Wednesday January 25 at 7 30 p m.
The St Joseph Altar Society held its monthly meeting at the Parish Hall after the 1:45 p.m. Mass. Twenty four members attended with president Mrs Martha Krejci presiding. The group approved the February noodle soup dinner and planned the February 6 1978 meeting hosted by Messrs Stryk Sustr Simper and Simper.
