T Long of Hallettsville and Nees seeks the Democratic primary nomination for county clerk of Lavaca County. A 43 year old Lavaca native, he taught nine years and served as District Clerk since 1900, supervised the 1910 census for his district, and has held public service roles including Registration Board Clerk and Legal Advisory Board member. In Houston on November 29 Mrs Narcissa Yarbrough Burns 111 celebrated her birthday with a Thanksgiving meal and her 90 year old daughter Mrs Mary Thomas. Burns a Tennessee native has resided in Texas for 109 years and has witnessed seven wars. The home in Houston Heights hosts mother and daughter as they celebrate together.

Mrs Emma Boening aged 46 wife of Henry Boening well known Camp Ranch resident died Friday November 23 1917 after months of illness Burial was at Floresville cemetery Sunday afternoon with a large procession The O D H S Lodge attended in a body Rev Schroeder officiated She leaves husband three children Hulda Emma and Theo Boening an only sister Mrs Otto Zimmermann four brothers Henry John August and Gerhard Mueller all near Moulton She was born Emma Mueller in Fayetteville and married November 20 1894 She belonged to the Lutheran Frauen Verein and was highly regarded in the community by friends and family

Lavaca County Legal Advisers Plan Questionnaire Help

The Lavaca county board of legal advisers appointed by President Wilson met at the courthouse on Thanksgiving afternoon with county attorneys to discuss assisting registrants in filling out their questionnaires. They may send several attorneys to Moulton and Shiner to aid residents and will meet again before questions are mailed. The advisers clarify they handle no exemptions and only help registrants complete the forms.

Narrow Escape as Car Dives Into Guadalupe River

Mr Randolph Kerr his wife and two children of Flatonia and Mrs Henry Kerr with two children of San Antonio nearly drowned when their automobile slid into 35 feet of Guadalupe River at Seguin on Thanksgiving Day. They waited for a ferry as no bridge existed. both Mr Kerr and Mrs Henry Kerr are skilled swimmers and all occupants were rescued along with the car and bags. Mrs Randolph Kerr is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Bunting of this city.

Red Cross Rally Parade Draws Lavaca County Officials

Twelve aubiles carried Aeschrs and pupils from area schools left for Hallettsville Wednesday to join the Loy alty and Red Cross rally under the Lavaca County Chapter. A parade of county school children moved through the streets before patriotic addresses.

The Baursville Lutheran Frauen Verein met at Mrs. Fritz Kaase’s country home for needlework and a quilt raffle won by Miss Marie Baur. Refreshments were served. The final meeting of the year is set with Mrs H F Mueller on Wednesday December 19.

A jolly crowd gathered Monday night at Mr. and Mrs. Edward Haas’s home in Kuehn's Grove to celebrate Annie’s birthday anniversary with refreshments. Hallettsville Texas shows 1800 members in the county with a long ledger of aid since founding. The record lists 120 lunches to National Guard, 69 Christmas boxes to France, 75 dollars for tobacco to France, 197 comfort bags and 360 knitted items including 50 sweaters and 60 mufflers. It also notes 18 wristlets 312 pairs of socks and 11 049 bandages and compresses.

Miller Killed Near Muldoon in Train Tragedy

T C Miller of Gonzales was killed near Muldoon Texas last night, believed to have fallen from a moving train. The body was found by a train crew and relatives have been notified as funeral arrangements are made.

Miss Margaret Woodrow Wilson daughter of the president performed a song recital in Southville on Monday night. The event drew a large audience and received enthusiastic applause. Total receipts reached 1164 dollars with 11046.47 for war relief and the remainder for expenses.

Mrs Catherine Burkett Dies at 87 in Waco

Mrs. Catherine Burkett aged 87 years six months and five days died at Waco Tuesday morning December 4. The body was shipped here for a funeral held at her nephew Lee Bunting's residence Wednesday at 9:30. Interment followed at Humphreys cemetery three miles north of Moulton. She is survived by ten children six boys and four girls.

Annual Bazaar by Moulton School Club at Opera House

The Moulton Home and School Club held its sixth annual bazaar at the opera house Thursday afternoon December 29. School children performed folk dances and musical selections enjoyed by all. The club raised a neat sum from selling useful articles coffee cake and home made candy.

Yoakum Florist Arrested for Disloyal Statement

A. Walter, a Yoakum florist who lost his possessions in a fire, was arrested Sunday afternoon and jailed in Cuero charged with disloyalty after allegedly cursing President Wilson at Elmer's restaurant. Federal officers ordered the arrest following witnesses’ reports. This marks Yoakum's first disloyalty arrest since the war declaration.

Early Jackson a well known local ball player died in Orange last Friday after a brief illness. His remains were laid to rest in Gonzales, his former home, Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife and four children.
