Four Thousand Youths to Take Physicals in January
Austin reports that 4,000 Texas youths will be sent for draft pre-induction physical examinations in January, the largest monthly total in years. Local boards will receive the order in December, while induction calls of 1,314 are issued as quotas have fallen below 2,000 monthly since July. General Wakefield cites a smaller candidate pool and expected rise in calls in early 1954 as reasons for the increase. Local board quotas for January are due by December 1.
