Acreage Cut 15 Percent Seen If Cotton Control Wins
Cotton farmers face a 15 percent acreage reduction for 1955 if the control plan is approved. The December 14 vote will decide whether 18 113 208 acres can be planted, down from 21.4 million, with potential hardship in cotton dependent areas like parts of Texas. Economists note 1954 had higher than expected output and warn further cuts could drag markets, but proponents see acreage controls as logical for orderly marketing amid a Washington power shift.
