Workers in OWCP Get 10 Times More Injury Benefits
The National Enquirer reports a House Appropriations Committee probe finds OWCP employees file for and receive far more workers' comp benefits than peers in other federal agencies. In 1977, 14 percent of OWCP's 1,125-strong workforce received benefits, far above the 1 percent in similar-sized agencies. OWCP paid about 3,656 on average versus 1,840 elsewhere, with some executives listed receiving 23,000 to 31,000 in a single year. Investigators say claims are easy to approve, and staff quickly take advantage. Officials vow closer quality control and reforms.
