Reports from Austin say three women in the House were defeated in county races: Mrs. Lee Rountree of Bryan Mrs. Helen Moore of Texas City and Mrs. N R Strong of Slocum. If no new women win Mrs Sarah Hughes of Dallas may be the only woman in the next House Margie Neal of Carthage will remain the sole woman in the Senate as a four year holdover.
Austin July 28. The attorney general’s department ruled that when the second place candidate in the democratic run off withdraws, the first election leader will appear on the August 27 ballot without opposition. Lower ranking candidates had been eliminated.
The July census shows Gonzales county leading six U S counties in turkey production with 132 833 birds. DeWitt county follows among the six with 107 255 birds and Otter Tail county Minnesota is second with 117 823 birds.

Oil contributes over one third of state manufacturing, with total oil value at 519001186 versus the second largest industry at 98861198.
