El Paso reports C H Dunbar killed Black Jack McDonald after a quarrel over dice at a Juarez saloon Sunday night. Both fired simultaneously. Dunbar jailed in Juarez. McDonald once worked as a Fort Worth brakeman and later ran a Juarez saloon after involvement in train robberies.
G J Schoen bahm has been promoted to agent for the Mexican National at Alice after five years as cashier and operator. Local business leaders approve the move as well deserved with broad backing in the town.
Rev. S. O. Mitchell a Baptist minister formerly in Texas and Louisville was struck and killed by lightning yesterday in Yelvington Owensboro Kentucky July 29 authorities report.

Galveston Texas July 29 The steamship St George finished loading wheat from Star mills elevator on Sunday and sailed for Antwerp in the afternoon carrying 350 bales of cotton and 200000 bushels of wheat from three wharf elevators. The ship crossed the bar at a depth of twenty four feet nine inches.
In Yoakum Texas on July 29 Mr C W Ordner manager of the round legin announces plans to use fuel oil in the coming season following a successful experiment by the National Compress Company who used it last season and were pleased with the results.
The Hop Hopkins case in Gonzales Texas ends with a guilty verdict after a trial for two criminal assaults on underage negro girls. He receives thirty years for one count and fifteen years for the other, with the second count initially resulting in a death penalty before reversal and a hung jury before the final guilty plea.
Havana officials report that the American medical commission at Vera Cruz believes it has found the cause of yellow fever. Secretary Diego Tayamo said Cuba will request any information, and if the reply is favorable, Dr. Guiteras will be sent to Vera Cruz to learn the discovery’s nature.
J F Mullahey secretary of the Stationary Firemens Association of Pennsylvania was arrested here yesterday charged with libel. Twenty five complaints have been lodged against him by men now employed vari ously by coal companies in this section.
Waco Texas July 28 The Brazos is receding saving many acres of crops. The ake levee below the city held firm while the Slayden levee was destroyed. The Texas Central railroad cannot run due to washed away tracks and broken bridges.
Washington July 28 The States census bulletin shows Texas produced 3,443 acres of tobacco in 1899 yielding 275 pounds per acre valued at 56,893,003 dollars. Other figures list peanut and brown production and per bushel values across the state.
Reports from Galveston dated July 28 indicate the Brazos river is rising near Navasaota at about three inches per hour while higher upstream the level falls. It is hoped the river will begin sailing at Navasaota today as the flow remains within banks and must rise four more feet to overflow the country.
