Texas public education used 88,557,308 dollars in the 1936-37 fiscal year or about 14 dollars per person. Public schools spent 76,877,266 dollars and colleges 11,680,052 dollars, total up 2,589,121 from the prior year. State aid covered 49 percent of costs, well above the national average of about 26 percent.
James W. Ragadale a Victoria attorney was beaten and robbed in his office Monday afternoon after drawing 500 dollars from a bank. He was found on the floor and rushed to a hospital in critical condition with an ambulance on scene.
Hd. Pundt sold the meat market he operated for seven years to Herman Kurtz and August Etlinger. The new owners assumed control last Monday and Pundt has not announced his future plans.
A Tuesday afternoon thunder shower struck a hay stack at the Joe Heger farm about five miles south of town. Several stacks were destroyed before the Moulton Volunteer Fire Department arrived with its booster truck and prevented further spread.

John Mang Sr died Wednesday April 18 at age 81 years 4 months 23 days. Funeral at home by Rev. E Jacobs and burial in Moulton Public Cemetery under Moulton Lodge No 298 A F and A M. Pallbearers listed. surviving eight children, 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren. Born Saxony Germany 1856 arrived Texas 1871, lived in Flatonia Lavaca Gonzales and Moulton. Wife Louise Persky died 1985.
In Memoriam from Mozart Lodge No. 59 O D H S notes the passing of John Mang on April 18 and expresses sympathy to his children. The resolution honors his faithful service to the order, orders copies to be sent to the bereaved, and publication in the Moulton Eagle. Resolutions dated April 16 1988 in Moulton Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilburt Randon of Hallettsville visited Moulton on Tuesday. Mr. Walter Warnecke and family of Luling spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lucke. Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Papacek and children Arnold and Marjorie visited relatives in Yoakum on Sunday.
The Komensky School volley ball team defeated Yoakum Shiner and Hallettsville to win the Lavaca County Championship on March 25. Players include Irene Vasek captain Eugenia Pavlicek Beat rice Vogt Sophia Kubena Marcella Bohuslav Judith Buzek and Irene Kubenka.
The Moulton Lodge No. 298 A F and A M adopts mourning observances for 30 days after the death of Brother John Mang who joined in 1903. Mr and Mrs Eugene Scholl of New Braunfels spent Easter Sunday with Mr and Mrs August Ellinghausen and Mr and Mrs Helmuth Ellinghausen.
Mr and Mrs Leroy Papacek and Fred McGee of Texas City and Miss Madeline Papacek of Richmond spent Easter Sunday with Mr and Mrs Joe Papacek.
Evergreen P T A meets April 7 with president Milton Riske presiding. Proceeds from the play Hillbilly Courtship totaled 106.05, net 91.22 after expenses. Picnic at Henkhaus Hall Sunday May 1 with fried chicken beef stew goody goodys music and beer 15 to 30 cents. Final plans set for April 26 at 8 P M. Lunch served after adjournment.

LeRoy Meiserschlaeger Edward Petrash and Edward Batey return from California where they served with Milton Kubena Charles Nevada and Robert McConnell re-enlisted for another six months.
Mr G G Fisbeek and family with Mrs Ignac Jalufka and Mamil Jalufka traveled to Temple on Sunday to see Mrs Emil Jalufka who is confined in a hospital. She is improving and expected to be home soon.
Miss Velma Powell of the Van Howard Company San Antonio was a business visitor at The Eagle office Saturday. The firm prepared the papers for the road bond election in this district set for May 5.
A. Ward of Yoakum, Lavaca County case worker, thanks Frank Biehunko Jr of Moulton for helping contact a neighborhood youth to join CCC enrollees at Schulenburg Camp to fill the district quota. Biehunko personally escorted the youth to Schulenburg.
The Moulton High School hosts the April P T A meeting with Grady Whittle leading the Glee Club. Mrs J T Jaeggli is chosen president for the ensuing year. The sixth grade wins the attendance banner for the month.
Arthur P. McElroy announces candidacy for re election as Lavaca County Texas sheriff subject to the Democratic primary in July. He pledges round the clock service, economy in county spending, full cooperation with officers and capable deputies across the county.
The last regular meeting of the Moulton Ladies Aid Society was held on Thursday April 7. Committees named for the month include Sick Helena Albrecht and William Hilert. Membership George Kaiser and Stanis Rothbauer. Flower Wm Schodde and Ida Lueke. Serving Albert Klobeads, Leo Jaroszewski and Fred Pietsch. Next meeting set for Thursday May 9.
Dickson school holds graduation exercises Tuesday night at the school. Stanley Cernosek will deliver the address as he heads Moulton Public Schools next year. Both teachers E E Darilek and Miss Marguerite Lanix are re-elected for next year.
Miss Valencia Papacek at Southwest Texas State Teachers College San Marcos spent the Easter holidays with her parents Mr and Mrs Joe Papacek.
The Lavaca County All Star team from Evergreen Moulton Oak Grove Breslau South Mustang and Sweet Home captured the district title at the interscholastic league meet in LaGrange. They defeated Gonzales County 12–2, Austin County 5–3, and Caldwell County 6–3. Coaches were Charles Strauss and Marvin Merrem. Dorothy Fehrenkamp took third in Declamation. John Gebauer finished second in Mile Run.
A dog killed in town last week tested positive for rabies after its head was sent to Austin for examination. The incident involved Frank Bohuslav of Komensky, and residents with yard dogs are advised to monitor them closely for a period.
The senior class of the Sam and Will Moore Institute presents Who Wouldn't Be Crazy a farce in three acts at the school auditorium Friday night April 29 starting at 8 o'clock. Watch this paper next week for further announcement.
Zions Lutheran Church invites worship with Sunday School at 9 A M on April 24 followed by a German language service at 10 A M. Pastor E Jacobs plans to attend the Texas District convention in Seguin from April 26 to May 1, with Mr. G J Bohnenkamp representing the congregation.
