Lavaca County voters set April 10 bond for road work
Taxpaying voters in Lavaca county will ballot April 10 on a $600,000 bond issue for road improvements. The notice instructs voters to mark out the paragraph beginning with “against” to vote for the bond and the paragraph beginning with “for” to vote against it. It warns that failure to build better roads means continuing the heavy mud tax.

Obituary: Joe Mikula of Six Mile Dies at 37
Joe Mikula prominent young farmer of Calhoun County died suddenly Sunday night at his Six Mile home near Port Lavaca. Funeral services were Monday at 4 15 p m from the family residence with burial in Six Mile Cemetery. He was born in Burleson County in 1896 and married Gladys Meyer on June 8 1933. Survived by wife three daughters one son mother six sisters and two brothers. Funeral arrangements were by Muske Richards Funeral Home Victoria.

Proposed $600000 bond would raise a 30 cent tax per $100 valuation. Funds earmarked for road improvements 350000, bridge repair 150000, and road machinery up to 100000. Distribution based on precinct need, the county plans a two to three year program to upgrade main roads first using available local material.

Body of War Dead Enroute Home
Staff Sgt. George D. Pavlicek killed in Normandy on July 7 1944 is en route to the United States. The body will go to the Distribution Center in San Antonio then to Dehl Funeral Home in Moulton for reburial. He was 27 years 9 months and 24 days old.
