Governor Allan Shivers visits Moulton on Easter Sunday to speak at a large civic gathering with State officials Bascom Giles and Jesse James. A full program includes a luncheon, veterans’ remarks, an Easter egg hunt, a community supper, and a closing dance with Rudy Kurtz Band.
Three days set for April 13 to 15 mark the final stages of District 69 B at Moulton with competing schools Schoenburg Wei mar Fatonia Waelder Moulton Shiner Hallettsville Breslau. Superintendent J W Pyland announces schedules including ground ball tennis finals typing shorthand debate choral singing declamations number sense spelling story telling extemporaneous speech one act play and track events with finals on Saturday.
April first marks the start of the decennial census with 140000 census takers gathering population data. A preliminary sampling shows there are about a million more women than men in the United States and state revenues from cigarette stamps rose in March.
All Moulton will extend a welcome to Governor Allan Shivers and his party on Sunday April 9. This marks the second time the town hosts a Texas chief executive following James V. Allred, who was the first governor to visit Moulton.
The Mothers Club meets Thursday April 13 at 3 PM in the Homemaking Cottage. The film Early Social Behavior will guide discussion as plans for an F H A Girls Nursery School are reviewed. Textile painting class meets Monday April 10 at 7 PM. contact Miss for details.
The Eagle reports Austin business leader C T Johnson may run for lieutenant governor of Texas amid statewide pressure from Democratic groups. Johnson, a University of Texas alumnus, gained praise for housing efforts in Austin and life insurance leadership, promoting a Citizens Program and tax ideas.
The F F A and 4 H Club Fat Stock Show in Moulton on Wednesday brought a large sunlit crowd. A colorful parade led by Lee Jarosek and Charles Filipp drew about 3,000 spectators and showcased floats from VFW American Legion Lions Club and local businesses. Raymond Hajek exhibited the Grand Champion Calf bought for 50 cents a pound by Earl Needham, with other champions in capon hog and lamb categories selling to local firms and individuals. An hour-long Moulton High School Band concert preceded the sale. auctioneers were Houch Brothers.
