Samuel Scott Burkett Pioneer of Lavaca County
Biography notes Samuel Scott Burkett born Aug 1866 near Moulton Lavaca County seventh of fourteen children to Nathan and Katherine Burkett. Family lineage traces to David Burkett who moved from Missouri to Texas arriving June 10 1829 at Lavaca mouth. Burkett served as Yoakum city marshal in 1911 and 1913, joined Baptist Church at Old Moulton in 1878, with Old Moulton building and a dormitory barn as relics. They discussed the district meeting in Yoakum on March 14, possible Czech dancing at the Historical Pageant, and a money making project. Door prizes went to Patrice Koranek and Eunice Pavlicek. Lunch followed with tuna fish salad sandwiches and chips.
