Bayonet Examined as Possible Percy Murder Weapon

Crime experts examine a recently found 14 inch bayonet in Lake Michigan as a potential weapon in Valerie Percy’s stabbing. Police say a matching fingerprint from the Percy home does not match known-access individuals, with hundreds of tips pouring in.

Massieon Assigned to Seven Gables Gambling Case

The Grundy County Circuit Court will hear the Seven Gables gambling case October 17 with Associate Circuit Judge John S. Massieon of LaSalle County presiding. Circuit Judge Howard Ryan and Leonard Hoffman are occupied elsewhere, and warrants were issued by Judge Ryan with Malmquist approving sufficiency. Defendants include Richard J. Close Sr and Jr, Robert Warren Daugherty, Wayne Dyson, Lester Gunteman, Marion Hettelle, Harold Jovanovitch, James McNamara, Stanley Moore, William Spellisy, and Rudolph Vidosh. Massieon, from LaSalle County, became county court judge in 1958 and later associate circuit judge when the system changed.

Seven Die in South Side Apartment Fire in Chicago

A South Side Chicago apartment blaze killed seven people including two children and three adults, with one father Marvin Snipes and his infant son surviving after leaping from a second story window. Accident Toll Climbs to Six Near Dwight

Six people died and several injured after a two car crash six miles east of Dwight in Livingston County at the Illinois 17 Campus blacktop intersection. Nurses from Peoria traveling to collect blood donations perished in the flames. others injured included two additional nurses and a Cullom resident.

Enrollment in County Schools Up 88 Pupils

The 1966-67 Grundy County school enrollment rose to 5,791, up 88 from last year. Elementary districts mostly up. Goodfarm and Braceville fell, Morris and Saratoga rose. high schools also gained, led by Morris with 40 more students. Overall public and parochial enrollment reaches 6,340.

CODE Project Clears 75 Percent of County In Tuberculin Drive

With two days left in the tuberculin skin test and chest x ray program CODE reports 16 766 county residents, about 75 percent, have used the free service. The mobile unit will stop at Eagle Hall Morris Liberty and Washington Streets from 2 to 8 30 p m today and Saturday and at V F W Hall McKinley Pine Street Saturday. In Saratoga Community the unit is at town hall today 2 to 8 30 p m. At Morris Eagle Hall 365 skin tests and 347 x rays were done from 402 visitors. in Minooka 427 skin tests and 316 x rays from 457 visitors. Two day totals show 836 tested or x rayed in Minooka and Morris. 3 583 have cooperated countywide from Sunday through Thursday to aid tuberculosis eradication.

Festival Queens Chosen Tonight At Grundy Corn Festival

Five high schools name finalists for festival queens during halftime of Morris Community High School versus Hall Township High football game. Queens chosen will ride in convertibles, receive festival support, and attend Sunday parade. Also covered are craft shows, demos, a car derby, a pet parade, water fights, dances, and multiple Saturday events at Morris for the Corn Festival.

Gromyko Presses for Vietnam Peace via US Withdrawal

At the United Nations General Assembly Soviet Foreign Minister Anrei A. Gromyko demanded the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. forces from South Vietnam and an end to bombing as the sole path to peace. He dismissed Goldberg’s peace plan as a false offensive and urged unconditional action by all nations to end U.S. aggression. He also introduced three draft resolutions on nonproliferation, nonintervention in internal affairs, and disbanding foreign bases.

Youth Injured in Coal City Crash Near Area Club

A Dwight teen, Steven Eddington, 16, was injured when his car side swiped a 2,300-volt power pole at the Coal City Area Club entrance. He is listed in fair condition at Morris Hospital with facial and head lacerations. His extensively damaged vehicle was towed to Buzz's in Coal City.
