Drowns in Illinois River Boat Capsize Near Sugar Island
Sauk Village man Norbert Jasinski Sr. 35 drowned when a 14 foot john boat capsized near Sugar Island on the Illinois River. Edward Goetz 55 Lansing and Joseph Boyer 45 Lansing survived. Jasinski Jr. 14 was aboard. Rescue squads from multiple towns recovered the body at 8:50 a.m. Sunday. no life jackets were worn.

The search for Norbert Jasinski ended when his body was recovered at the accident site by Ottawa Rescue Squad. Grundy County Coroner James Reeves pronounced him dead at the scene. Funeral services will be held at St James Church in Sauk Village with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery Calumet City. He was born November 29 1938 in Chicago and lived eight years in Sauk Village. Survived by his wife three sons one daughter a brother and three sisters.

Five hurt in Illinois River boat crash
A speed boat struck a cable between barges on the Illinois River about 1.5 miles west of Illinois 47 at 9 59 p m Friday injuring five people. Virgil Schmidt 43 and George Nelson 45 Hinsdale were held for observation at Morris Hospital. Others treated and released include Shirley Nelson 41 Martin Nemanich 32 Cicero and Patricia Nemanich 27. Alfred Hagerty pilot Iole Casey of Lockport were treated and released. The accident occurred as Schmidt’s boat collided with the towing cable. all victims were rescued and later transferred to hospital. No damage estimate available.

Handicapped Britons visit Ottawa on exchange program
Forty one British youths aged 16 to 35 arrived in Ottawa Illinois for a one week visit in the first international exchange limited to handicapped persons. Driver dies after Illinois crash in rain storm
Cleo J. Phillips, 63, of Indianapolis, died at Illinois Valley Hospital from injuries in a collision on U.S. 51 south of Tonica during a rain storm. Four others including Phillips' wife were treated at the hospital.
Oswego Drag Race driver badly burned in fire
