Grundy County approves 9 percent pay raise plan

Grundy County Board votes a 9 percent salary increase for most county employees, cuts the $2000 safety director bonus for Sheriff Button, and raises several department heads salaries. Others include elected officials, health, planning and zoning directors, coroner, home director, probation officer, and new rules on sick days holidays and travel reimbursement.

Rural subdivision hearing debates farm land use

About 40 people attended Grundy County public hearing on rural subdivision planning. Ten residents spoke on converting prime farmland to housing, with concerns over long term productivity, farm operations, traffic, and esthetic value. Officials urged policy support for ongoing farming and revised zoning to balance needs.

The Morris Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7 30 p m today in Morris Savings and Loan on a request by Trend Builders to rezone 7 86 acres from R I to R II. The property immediately west of Trend Builders Subdivision was annexed by the Morris City Council on Aug 14 and initially zoned R I.

Weather outlook with rain and storms forecast tonight

Cloudy conditions with possible rain and thunderstorms tonight, lows in the mid 60s to low 70s. Thursday expected showers and thunderstorms with highs in the 70s to around 80. Tuesday reached 80 at Dresden Island Locks and Dam with a 65 low. Morning readings: 72 at 7 am, Morris 79 at 10:15 am. Precipitation reported at .05.

New Lenox Man in Critical Condition After Route 30 Crash

A two car crash on Route 30 near Cherry Road left Joseph Jencon, 52, of New Lenox in critical condition at Silver Cross Hospital Joliet. Jencon drove a 1967 Volkswagen while a 1973 Opel’s driver was treated in the ER. Richard Codini, 21, of Mokena, would be admitted. State Police said details remain undetermined due to Jencon's condition and Codini's memory loss. MINOOKA Planning Commission set for Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in village hall.

Minooka board debates subdivision delays and gravel plan

Minooka village board heard concerns over slow subdivision improvement at Bonita Vista with a dispute between the developer and contractor over unpaid sewage plant and curb work though the village engineer approved both. County board buys new computer machine

The Grundy County board approved purchasing a computer system from Governmental Data Systems of Rockford for 21,900 to count ballots at 300 per minute and tally precinct and overall totals. The model also will handle tax, payroll, voter registration, and alimony records and could feed data directly from the courthouse. County officials debated model options and demonstrations, with the third model winning approval.

Enrollment in Morris District 54 declines by about 100 students from last year with Shabbona Franklin and Garfield down while Center rises. Center reports 349 students up 19. Garfield down 36. Franklin 131. Shabbona 408 down 71. Transportation serves 700 bus riders with 98 to Immaculate Conception and eight routes. eight special education students bused to Joliet area. District received 320000 in tax money, 200000 to warrants, Edison tax dispute ongoing with potential 400000 impact. School lunch participation falls about 100 to 800 served. one cook not replaced. Board designates Shabbona circle drive as fire lane and appoints two members to state convention.

County takes over area ambulances agreement reached

Kane County Board of Commissioners unanimously approves four amendments to assume control of the Tri-City Ambulance Service, created in 1973 by Geneva Batavia and St. Charles, with takeover set for month end after months of cost concerns and delays.
