Corn Festival entries build toward 25th Grundy County event
Grundy County residents prepare for the 25th Grundy County Corn Festival with events on September 28 29 and 30. Crackerbox Derby co chairmen Harold Guehler and Jim Leonard expect 65 plus cars, with safety inspection and prizes for top finishes. The Kiddie Parade will feature 200 plus participants judged by the Women of the Moose. Floats in Civic Home Made and Professional categories are being organized by Chamber of Commerce volunteers. Volunteers are urged to contact the chamber at 942 0113 to help with photo shows and other activities.

Deadline Tight for Grundy Tax Second Installment
Grundy County taxpayers must submit the second installment at the county treasurer’s office by Friday or by noon Saturday at any county bank. Treasurer Pauline Coleman reports 55 percent received by Aug. 15. first distributions to taxing bodies start Sept. 29 with remainder in November. Affidavits for personal property taxes are still accepted, with sole ownership required for refunds.

Van overturns injuring driver in Grundy County crash
Loyal L. Collins, 57, of 1005 McCameron Street Lockport, was listed in satisfactory condition at Silver Cross Hospital Joliet after his Chevrolet van flipped into a ditch on Pine Bluff Road near Goose Lake Road. The crash occurred at 2 25 p m Tuesday when traffic ahead slowed to turn. Collins swerved left and the van tipped, spilling Fritos from the back. No tickets were issued.
