Trains crash toll 34 in Chicago rush hour collision
In a morning rear-end collision on the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad South Side 34 people were killed and more than 200 injured as firemen freed passengers from twisted wreckage. The lead train backed up after passing the platform and collided with the following train amid rush hour crowding.

Dr John B Roth of 815 Fremont Ave was reported fairly well at Presbyterian St Luke's Hospital in Chicago where he was taken Friday. Mrs Roth said tests would start today. He is in the hospitals cardiac section and visitation is limited to family.

Voters in all four wards rejected a 300000 bond issue for a new city hall by 683 to 407. Turnout was 1096 unofficial, with six spoiled ballots. The plan included demolishing the old hall, a parking lot, water pump house, landscaping and furniture.

Farm accident kills Yorkville man
A 21 year old Yorkville man Gary L Darrow died Sunday afternoon in a farm harvest accident on the Gerald Tuttle farm south of Yorkville Illinois 47. He was pulled into a corn picker while clearing a jam and pronounced dead at the scene at 5 p m. He was a Vietnam veteran employed by Fox Valley Disposal Co. Funeral services will be at 1 30 p m Wednesday at Larson Funeral Home Yorkville with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
