Douglas Percy battle on open housing

Sen. Paul H. Douglas and his Republican opponent Charles H. Percy traded charges on open housing in their campaign for the Senate seat. Douglas accused Percy of duplicity by arguing to whites and Negroes, while Percy denied it and charged Douglas with using different material in Negro and white neighborhoods. Percy argued only one family homeowner exemption could make open housing workable, and said he supports freedom of residence.

County to Receive State Funds for Special Education

Grundy County will receive 9338.29 as reimbursement for special education programs for 1965 66. A total of 847 districts in Illinois are approved for 14295189.65. Kendall County 15201.72 LaSalle 67587.46 Will 286111.56. Six county schools filed claims including Coal City Mazon Morris Gardner Minooka. A full distribution breakdown is expected within two weeks.

Witnesses Testify In Pierce Trial

Two Coal City youths charged in two Tuesday fires

Thomas Ray Collier and Kenneth Fisk, both of Coal City, face criminal damage charges after alleged involvement in two fires in Goose Lake Township. Bond set at $1000 each. Collier released to parents, Fisk remanded for lack of bond. Arson investigation by Grundy County officials and state fire marshals followed.

Blood Donors Scarce First Two Hours

Alton Voters Approve $675000 School Bond Issue

Alton Illinois residents approve a 675000 bond issue and a 15 cent school tax increase to fund a 15 room addition at North Junior High. Bond vote 2430 to 1816 and tax vote 2349 to 1894. simple majority required.
