Rock Island trains end service by November 19

The Rock Island Railroad will end intercity passenger service between Chicago and Rock Island and Chicago and Peoria by November 19 after an ICC ruling calling the service an unjust burden. Possible injunctions exist if a suit is filed, with bond requirements for plaintiffs.

Morris Planning Commission to hear rezoning petitions

The Morris Planning Commission will meet Wednesday at 7 30 p m to vote on rezoning requests from Morris Construction Co and Weppler Plumbing and Heating. Petitions seek rezoning four parcels about 14 acres north of DuPont St between Trend Subdivision and Lakewood Estates from R I and R V to R II and R III. A Weppler petition seeks rezoning two parcels on Cemetery Rd by the Illinois Michigan Canal from R II to M I. Public hearing in the Morris Savings and Loan Association community room.

New Grundy County Voter Cards For Consolidated Elections

Grundy County residents will receive new voter registration cards within a week as part of Illinois consolidated elections. County Clerk Lana Phillips says the cards, printed by the Rockford county service, identify ballots for each voter and include an election judge application form. The county will hold five elections every two years, two in even years and three in odd years, with referendums included in scheduled elections. Morris council set Trick or Treat hours 6 to 8 p m October 31 by unanimous vote.
