New Emergency Room Residency Expands at Morris Hospital

The Morris Hospital expands weekend emergency room coverage under a University of Illinois Medical School residency plan. Five doctors staff ER nights starting Oct 5 with goals to grow to 14 and later form an intern program. The move includes Dr. John Roth Jr. and Dr. Roger Roth noting women and retirees.

Homecoming Week at Morris High School

Morris Illinois October 14 1973 Morris Community High School hosts homecoming events beginning with a snake dance from 6 to 7 p.m. and an informal dance 8 to 9 30 p.m. A downtown parade Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by sophomore game at noon and varsity at 2 p.m. Alumni tea 12 to 2 p.m. in the gym lobby.

Dean admits guilty plea in Watergate conspiracy case

Former White House counsel John W. Dean III pleaded guilty to conspiring to obstruct the Watergate investigation and agreed to cooperate with the special prosecutor. Sentencing deferred. maximum penalty five years and $5,000 fine. Dean testified to meetings in Nixon's office and involvement in hush payments.

Chemical sales kickbacks probe spans most Illinois counties

The Better Government Association and The Associated Press report that chemical salesmen gave gifts and kickbacks to 53 of 102 Illinois counties officials who bought supplies. 127 officials in 56 counties were interviewed, with 69 admitting they took gifts. Estimated state wide chemical business in townships reaches 3 to 4 million dollars annually.

Tragedy in Coal City as 7-year-old boy killed by truck

Seven year old Bradford Parris McCammon of 130 S. Washington St Coal City was fatally injured on his way to Coal City Grade School when a semi trailer driven by James E. St John struck him on S Broadway. He died of multiple injuries at the scene about 8 a.m. The driver will not be charged. Funeral services are set for Reeves Funeral Home with burial at Braceville Gardner Cemetery.

Grundy County speech therapy mileage vote and hiring debate

Cook pleads guilty to obscenity charge

Harry G. Cook 57 of Ottawa pleaded guilty to an obscenity charge and was fined 1000 dollars plus court costs for an incident at Da De Co County Club on October 31 1972. A gambling charge was dismissed. Circuit Judge Thomas R Flood imposed the sentence. Veterans Day holiday affects Morris mail service with limited delivery and hours.
