National Tea Co plans closing 160 stores in the Chicago area by January. The Morris store is not among 63 Chicago division stores being sold to A and P. No layoffs planned as phase-out covers all area National outlets.
Ford and Carter prepare for a 90 minute televised debate from the Palace of Fine Arts with focus on defense cuts foreign policy and the Mayaguez affair. Each side outlines strategies while CBS NBC and The Times prepare questions and a three journalist panel moderates Pauline Frederick leads.
A Bloomington man received treatment at St. James Hospital after a semi-truck overturned on the shoulder of Interstate 55 near Stonewall Road two miles northeast of Dwight in Grundy County. The 38 year old owner Joseph Jenkins was released after the crash. Damage to the truck was about 10 000 dollars.
UPI reports the final presidential debate between President Ford and Jimmy Carter will take place October 22 in Phi Beta Kappa Memorial Hall on the College of William and Mary campus in Williamsburg Virginia. The league of Women Voters announced the plan from San Francisco noting prior campus visits.

Mrs. Charlotte Wharrie 38 sustained a cut lip and neck and back pain after a two car collision on Illinois 47 near Pine Bluff Road at about 2 50 pm Tuesday. John Hansen Jr. 23 Joliet was ticketed for failure to reduce speed. damage totaled 1200 to Wharrie s Buick and 350 to Hansen s front end. A second hit and run involved Marvin Stone 39 Ottawa whose 1965 International truck was damaged 250 left side. The other driver fled east on Grand Ridge Road.
The British pound fell 2.55 cents to $1.6390 amid early trading in London. It opened at $1.6455, near a record low around $1.6305, with dealers noting selling pressure and no BoE market support. The trade weighted depreciation against ten currencies since December 1971 reached a fresh record of 45.7 percent.

Material Service protests similar share of bridge and matching funds plus township and district levies and questions fund balances versus yearly expenditures.
Detectives Rox and Olson work with area sheriffs the FBI and BCIA to identify a woman found shot to death in Grundy County Saturday. The ~18 year old black woman was found in a ditch north of US 6 about 1.4 miles east of LaSalle County at 3 p.m. Saturday.
President Ford and Betty Ford will arrive in Joliet on October 15 aboard a special campaign train and stay overnight before campaigning there the next day. Spokesman Michael Ellis said the late afternoon or early evening arrival is planned with no other Illinois stops confirmed. A Grundy County Board of Health meeting is set for 7 30 pm Wednesday at the Health Department on Edwards Street.
