An autopsy was to be conducted today into the death Sunday night of 21 year old James B. Avery of Morris. The case is treated as a suspected drug overdose and investigation continues.
Tonight cloudy with showers and possible storms, cooler with 55. Tuesday remains cloudy and cooler with showers, near 60. A death near Diamond prompts a sheriff led investigation after a man identified as James B. Avery is pronounced dead at Coal City Police Station following resuscitation attempts and a street trailer incident. Private funeral services will be arranged.
Grundy County deputies and the Morris Fire Department responded to a horse stuck about eight feet underground Saturday at 7 40 p m. The horse owned by Thomas Coleman of Verona was rescued in about 45 minutes with a high lift crane from C W Bud Ferguson and no serious injury occurred. The Morris Public Library Board will meet at 7 30 p m in the staff room.
A painting party turned dangerous when two propane gas explosions struck the two story residence of the Harry Leasure family on Cemetery Road around 12 45 p m Saturday. Nineteen people were injured with five in serious or fair condition the morning after. Dana Leasure 17 and Jason Mathias 15 months were in serious condition in Loyola Medical Center burn unit.
The blast at a Morris residence during an exterior painting party injured Eugene Krapf 42 and others. Propane leaks from an uncapped stove pipe caused gas buildup in the basement. six walls blew out as residents ate lunch. Kimberly Krapf 9 and Mrs. Davy 47 suffered burns.
A black woman about 18 and 5 foot 9 was found slain along U.S. 6 near the LaSalle County line. Sheriff Button said she died of a gunshot wound to the head and authorities opened an identity search with fingerprint checks and teletype alerts. The body was kept at Range Funeral Home in Joliet for autopsy and identification.
A three vehicle collision at Illinois 59 and 95th Street in Plainfield killed Madeliene White of Minooka and Daniel Hurd of Naperville. White's husband Richard White was hospitalized in serious condition. George Gould of Aurora suffered minor injuries. State police cited Hurd as failing to stop at a sign before a semi struck his motorcycle. Funeral arrangements and visitation were announced for Mrs. White.
Gunmen killed Juan Maria de Araluco Villar in San Sebastian as he left his office, a high ranked member of Spain’s Council of the Realm and president of Guipuzcoa province parliament. Several others wounded or killed including his chauffeur and a police escort. If linked to ETA, he would be the highest government officer slain since 1973. He was a Basque native, notary, and Franco era provincial leader.
Lake Will and Grundy county authorities identified three female bodies found weekend. A 15 to 19 year old girl near Hickory Creek off I 80 in Will County. a black nude woman shot in the head near Morris Grundy County. a woman 30 to 40 found near Williams Park Wauconda possibly burned by acid. Autopsies ordered to determine causes.
A Minooka couple Ralph Dollinger and Frances Dollinger were treated and released at Morris Hospital after their 1974 Chevrolet was rear-ended by a 1975 Chevrolet driven by Mark Erdman on Interstate 55 near I 80. Erdman, 19, was ticketed for following too closely.
