South Wilmington youth shot in chest accident
No charges filed in the accidental shooting of Phillip Bates 19 of Joliet at about 1 30 a m Saturday near Recos Tavern East Brooklyn Bates was found with a chest wound and treated in St Joseph Hospital Joliet Investigators questioned Carmen Serena Roy Ballenger and others and Ballenger said Bates was shot with a high standard 22 caliber revolver loaded with blanks Bates’s weapon was sent for tests and Bates said it was an accident.

Morris man injured in Seneca truck crash
Edward Anderson, 56, of Route 3 Morris, was listed in fair condition at Morris Hospital after his pickup left North Main Street in Seneca and struck trees about 9:15 p m Friday. Police said Anderson was southbound on the steep hill into Seneca.

Essex Woman Injured in Car Deer Accident Near Wilmington
An 82 year old Essex woman, Jennie Fisher of Route 1 Essex, was injured when a car driven by 28 year old Davis W. Denars veered after striking a deer on Illinois 53 about three miles north of the Illinois 113 intersection in Will County. Denars’ 1974 Gremlin rolled over in the west ditch and Fisher was taken to Morris Hospital in fair condition by Wilmington Rescue Squad. Police estimated nine hundred dollars of damage to the vehicle.

Lockport fireman killed in blaze
Keith Kinnard an 18 year old volunteer firefighter from Lockport died after entering the Strike and Spare bowling alley north of Lockport to fight a blaze that trapped him when the roof collapsed. Three firemen entered the building with over 100 responders fighting the four hour fire.

A car reported stolen from Lee County last Wednesday was recovered at a strip mine pool 60 feet off White Tie Road near Jugtown Road at 10 30 a m. It belonged to Howard Nelson Sr. of Paw Paw and had a Catalina radio and battery removed before being pushed over a 50 foot cliff.

Jesse Bishop, 21, an escaped inmate from Raleigh State Prison, was arrested in DeKalb County after a hit-and-run in Sandwich Illinois. A Plano police officer recalled Bishop’s alias Buddy Franklin and confirmed the identity. Bishop will be extradited to North Carolina after signing papers.
